R&D: Can a Houdini/Karma render be converted into useful vector graphics?

R&D: Can a Houdini/Karma render be converted into useful vector graphics?

I’ve been experimenting with this for a while, and this is the current result on a more complex test model.

The image on the left is the Karma beauty render. The image on the right is the current vector output.

It’s still an early prototype and there’s a lot to improve, but at this point it can already preserve a surprising amount of the original shape, detail, color and lighting.

I’m curious whether this kind of output would actually be useful to anyone here, and what you’d want to see tested next.

I’ll keep posting updates as I make progress.

[Hobby] Beginner Houdini Artist Looking for a Small Indie Game Project

Hi! I’m a beginner procedural 3D artist working with Houdini

I already have several finished megastructure and modular building systems in a dark sci-fi, dystopian, cyberpunk and brutalist style. They could work well for projects involving a vertical city, industrial colony, post-apocalyptic environment or overcrowded futuristic megacity.

My current skills include:

  • modular environment creation;
  • procedural architecture generators;
  • asset placement systems;
  • materials and basic texturing;
  • basic technical art and pipeline work.

I’m still at an early level and looking to gain practical experience in game development. I would like to join a small team that already has a working prototype and needs environments in this kind of visual style.

For a first collaboration, I would prefer to work on a small playable location, a short test level, a vertical slice or a game jam project.

Here is examples of my current work
