GE Teacher Struggles

GE teacher is a tyrant and refuses to accommodate or differentiate for students with an IEP. They deny the students access to anything and everything which includes food, fidgets, toys, etc.

Their classroom looks like a prison; there’s no art, anchor charts, nothing. Just desks, a laminated clip chart the length of the wall (I’m not exaggerating), and bins with worksheets, and a space for circle time.

They clip students down even if they whisper wrong.

They come into work everyday with the worst attitude. Saying things like “these are the worst behaved kids.” And “I’d be better if I wasn’t here.”

They refuse to even properly greet or acknowledge the kids. It’s always an order to get in line or go sit down.

My student is not receiving the help they need, so the student does nothing all day. Which is causing behaviors when the student comes to my class.

It is getting to a point where I feel I need to talk to admin, but I’m scared I won’t be taken seriously since I’m not licensed yet.

It’s exhausting having students in that classroom.

Hug Machine

Hi!

I have a student who likes the feeling of being squeezed. However, he’s not much of a physical hugger and since we can’t sit and squeeze him all day. I’m trying to think of something he can wear that allows him to feel that sensation.

One of our therapists, has a machine she uses that lets them feel pressure during sessions. However this is only a weekly thing and for a few minutes at a time.

What can I use to give him this sensation? That isn’t a straitjacket.

Job transitioning into white spaces

I’m transitioning into my career that is white-dominated. I’ve only really worked in spaces with majority black staff and I’m scared I’m gonna have a hard time adjusting.

I’m currently in my program and planning to start my career next year. I’m not excited to deal with the lack of cultural safety I’ve been accustomed too.

so far, I’ve already dealt with micro aggressions, passive aggressiveness and mean girl behavior from the palm Colored women around me and it’s barely my second semester.

I’m really not excited and I’m feeling a little pre-anxious.
