So back in 2024 I was on a family vacation and at one point we went tubing. The rest of the people there - my two aunts, my uncle, and cousins went WAYYY far ahead of me, which led to me getting stuck with my other uncle for the rest of it.

Now I love my uncle (who’s in his 60s, I’m 24) and he can be a nice guy, but sometimes he can say ridiculous things. This was the absolute worst behaviour I’ve seen from him though. He’s Christian and I’m not, which is important to know for this.

I was moving into some seaweed (which you can get stuck in while tubing) and I said audibly “Jesus Christ!!”. He then says “I find it funny how you’re not Christian but still say Jesus Christ” which is fucking funny because aren’t you not supposed to say that in Christianity?!?

I tried telling him that phrases like “Oh my God!” and “Jesus Christ!” have entered the common lexicon to the point where they’re commonplace, no matter what logic I threw at him, he still said that people who say Jesus Christ but aren’t Christian are hypocrites. I then said “It’s like nonchristians celebrating Christmas!” and he was all like “They’re hypocrites for that too!”

I had enough of his bullshit so I told him to shut up, and he look at me with a smile on his face and was like “You responding like that means I’m right!!! 😃😃😃” and “That’s how people respond when they know they’re wrong!” and I was getting super fed up with him.

I tried telling him “You’re being really smug right now, you know that?” and he said “I’m not being smug! You’re the one that’s saying that!” We soon dropped the conversation though but I knew I had to tell my aunt about it when I got back.

Now my aunt (Who is Gen X, not a boomer) is very nice and she’s very understanding. She usually understands me, although she’s said some things that I definitely don’t agree with at all before (for example, she once made a joke that really made me cringe and while she agreed not to make the joke again around me she said I needed to learn to take a joke. She’s still a great person though). I tried telling her about my uncle being a pretentious piece of shit and she was just like “You and him just disagree on different things” and she even got shocked when I told her that I told him to shut up.

I’ve told this story to many friends and I figured it had a place on this subreddit. What do you think?

After so many years, it’s finally here!!! I’m planning I’ll use the existing audio from the show to complete it today.
