Checking in on the Relievers we traded at the dealine
Our pen has really been a surprise since the deadline thanks to guys who replaced the relievers we dealt. But the question I had is: how have they been pitching since their trades?
Huascar Brazoban: one of the more poorly received deals due to his multiple years of cost controlled contract left, Brazoban went to the Pale Hose who desperately needed high leverage arms to offset their rotation not going deep into games
7.1 IP, 5 ER, 3 BB, 1.5 WHIP, 6.14 ERA
Huascar is struggling to find his footing in Chicago and has coughed up a few key games as the Sox have been faltering.
AJ Minter: The earliest reliever dealt, Minter was strong in work since his return prior to being moved to the Twins. Minter was brought in by the Twins to add veteran leadership to their pen trying to bridge the path Yoendrys Gomez.
8 IP, 1 ER, 1 BB, .75 WHIP, 1.13 ERA
AJ is giving the Twins exactly what they wanted, a strong 8th inning arm as they sit 4 GB of the division.
Brooks Raley: Another veteran Met who stood as the teams most consistent reliever during his tenure, Raley was a tough departure to a division rival in the Phillies. Raley was brought in to give the pen length but not as set up but per say.
6.2 IP, 3 ER, 1 BB, .90 WHIP, 4.05 ERA
Brooks has been meh, and has been susceptible to the long ball giving up 2 HRs as the Phillies have j played good ball since the deadline though I think they would expect more from Raley.
Luke Weaver: Weaver was the consensus best trade deadline arm available. He was acquired to close out games for the Pirates who were sinking deep into the pack in the wild card race. Weaver also all but begged not to dealt.
3 IP, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2.00 WHIP, 9 ERA
What stands out is the lack of work from the best reliever on the market. His runs were all given up on one appearance. The Pirates have been awful since the deadline and Weaver has continued to express disappointment about the trade.
