Alpe Dhuez

Hi everyone,
We're currently staying in Les Deux Alpes and were planning to watch Stage 19 in Alpe d'Huez. Unfortunately, we've just realized that cycling up to Alpe d'Huez isn't realistic for us because of the climb.
Does anyone know the best way to get there using public transport or ski lifts/gondolas? We're also wondering how the road closures will affect getting to Le Bourg-d'Oisans or Alpe d'Huez on race day.
Any advice from locals or people who've done this before would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

TDF watching First Timers

Hello everyone,
My boyfriend and I are going to watch the Tour de France live this year. It's our first time, and honestly we're both really excited but also a little nervous.
Our first stop will be Lausanne, where we plan to watch Stage 16. Since it's a TT, we'd love to hear any recommendations on the best places to watch.
After that, we're heading to watch the legendary Stages 19 and 20, especially the finish on Alpe d'Huez.

We have a few questions:

  1. What's the best way to get up and down Alpe d'Huez? We'll be staying in Les Deux Alpes, and we're not sure whether we should bring our bikes. To be honest, I'm also not sure I'd make it up the climb myself because I might be carrying a few extra kilos 💀. Is it realistic to walk up, hitchhike, or use some other form of transport? Figuring out how to get to the stage and back to our hotel is currently giving us a headache.

  2. Are there any specific spots on Alpe d'Huez where lots of fans gather and that are considered "must-see" locations?

  3. What is food and drink availability like on race day? Are there usually people selling drinks, snacks, or other supplies along the climb?

  4. Do we need to be careful about theft or other sketchy situations? I've heard a few horror stories about pickpocketing and stolen bikes, so I'm wondering how concerned we should be.

Any advice from people who have attended the Tour before would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
