Motor tax for Japanese imports
Hi all, long one here but please let me know if anyone has heard of this!
Has anyone else had experience buying a Japanese imported vehicle from a dealer in Ireland?
I was the first person to tax the car in Ireland and have seen it in a higher band than the EU/IE/UK verson of the exact same car
Queried with revenue and the car was tested using a Japanese JC08 emissions test, whereas Ireland is using NEDC
Revenue has said JC08 and NEDC are "comparable" when they clearly are not
They said they'll reduce my motor tax if I get a VIN specific email from VW stating my emissions in NEDC, which is impossible to obtain as the car was only tested with Japans JC08 method
VW confirms my model of car emissions in NEDC but they cant say its specific to my VIN so revenue won't accept it
I feel stuck. Does revenue say both methods are "comparable" just so they can get a little extra money on the imports? I've complained but get the same "comparable" nonsense when it's clearly not
