AI seems to be finding its way into pretty much everything these days, and now we’re starting to see more of it in the large-format printing industry.

I’ve been wondering where it can really make a difference.

Could you see AI being useful for things like:

Predicting maintenance issues before they become a problem
Spotting print-quality issues
Improving colour consistency
Optimising job nesting and media usage
Suggesting or choosing the right media for a job
Helping with production scheduling

But the bigger question is: how much would you trust AI with your workflow?

Would you be happy letting AI make some of those decisions, or would you still want an experienced operator to have the final say?

For those working with large-format printers, where do you think AI could genuinely save time, reduce waste or improve quality — and where is human judgement still essential?

Are customers asking for more sustainable signage?

We’re seeing more conversation around recyclable, reusable and lower-waste signage, but I think the answer could vary quite a bit depending on where in the world you’re based.

Are customers genuinely asking for more sustainable options, or do price and media availability still tend to be the deciding factors?

How long do you really wait for large format prints to outgas?

I've been hearing a lot of different opinions lately about outgassing times for solvent, eco-solvent, and latex prints, and it's got me wondering what people are actually doing in the real world.

Most manufacturers seem to recommend waiting 24–48 hours before laminating solvent or eco-solvent prints, but I've heard all kinds of approaches:

* "I laminate straight away and have never had a problem."

* "Anything less than 24 hours is asking for trouble."

* "For heavy ink coverage, I wait at least 72 hours."

* "HP Latex? No outgassing needed."

So what's your experience?

If you're running a vehicle wrap shop or a high-volume production environment, are you sticking to the manufacturer's recommendations, or have you found your own timeline that works reliably?

Have you ever had a job fail because it was laminated too soon? Or maybe you've been pushing the limits for years without any issues?

I'd love to hear both the success stories and the lessons learned. Outgassing seems to be one of those topics where everyone has a different answer, and I'm curious to see where the industry really stands.

What's the most overrated feature people look for in a large-format printer?

Every new printer launch seems to focus on speed, colour gamut, resolution, or the latest printhead technology.

But after talking to people across the industry, I'm not convinced those are the things that have the biggest impact on day-to-day production.

For those running print shops or production environments:

What's the one feature you'd refuse to compromise on?
What's a feature that gets a lot of attention but rarely affects your operation?
Has your opinion changed after living with a machine for a few years?
