HP Photosmart 6520 being difficult with ink

My grandma has had this printer for a long time and has always used HP ink for it until one time she put in some cheaper stuff that said it was compatible with hp printers. The cheap ink cartridges fit in the printer right. The printer would recognize that it’s not holding HP brand ink but there wouldn’t be any error screen and it still technically print out what you asked it to, but it would look like photo 4.

My grandma then replaced the ink cartridges with HP brand ones again to try and solve the issue, but it kept happening, minus the “this is not HP brand ink” message thingie.

She had done a print quality diagnostic (photo 3) and did both the alignment and cleaning printer head options the diagnostic provided as solutions to any issues. The printer kept being difficult though.

I came over and essentially did the same thing. I did the alignment first (photo 5) and then cleaned the printer heads and it spat out another print quality diagnostic for me (photo 6)

I have no idea why this printer is being so difficult. I mean I know it’s older but I feel like it should still work since it was working completely fine before the cheap ink event.

I’m posting here to see if anyone has had a similar issue and if anyone knows how to fix it or make it better!! I’d prefer to fix anything myself but if I need to go to a repair place I will! Thank you for any advice you all have!!

What printers/equipments do I need?

Hi, I am making a board game that has the use of a bunch of cards, I am past the prototype and testing and I want to start making a "sellable" product, that I can take to fairs and events.

So, to make it as affordable as possible, I want to print out my cards (for the prototype I went to a company), I have never done this before, so I want to know a few things.

What type of printer should I use, what type of paper, ink etc.

I'm guessing I need the equipment that laminates and the thing that does precision cutting.

Is there anything else I'm missing?

Any tips on how to cut back on costs would be appreciated, I want to have a list of everything that is necessary for a quality product, so I can later do a cost analysis (to see if its worth it for a side project).

Question about resolution and DPI, for commercial printing

Hello! I seek advice from printing Reddit for probably a stupid question. Recently, I have been doing graphic design with some illustrative aspects for some commercial facilities. Many of this is hand drawn/illustrated as the majority (I.e. done in clip studio paint, procreate, etc.) I haven’t been able to wrap my head around dpi. Online, I see things indicating the smaller a print is, the higher dpi it should be, and that things like billboards use 72 dpi because they’re farther away.

I have a 10,000 x 12,000 reso file with an illustration (raster, not vector) and it auto defaulted to 1200 dpi. This needs to be printed- I’m unsure if I need to be adjusting the dpi for this. I don’t know the exact measurements it will be printed to but probably varying since I think it will be printed for a few things. For the sake of the question, i’d say the biggest could be several feet wide or tall, but realistically probably like 20 x 24 inches or something. I don’t want myself to be the cause of an issue sending it to the company at a dpi that’s too high. I used raster because I don’t have the skills/tools to do the type of work in vector so that’s why I used such a large canvas.

-Do I need to adjust the dpi, or can a commercial printer handle the difference or adjustment depending on the input print size? -If I need to change it, what should I change it to? With the examples of if I needed it 10 feet by 12 feet (random example as I don’t know) and 20 by 24 inches (another random example but something that seems plausible a size they could use)

Thank you in advance!

LF Affordable Printers

Hello po! Can you help me po? 🥹 I'm a student po and I'm looking for an affordable printer. My budget is around 5k lang po.

If possible, gusto ko sana all-in-one na (print, scan, and copy), and preferably refillable ink tank instead of cartridge. Wala po talaga akong masyadong knowledge about printers, so everything I know is based lang sa research ko. From what I've read, mas tipid daw po ang ink tank compared sa cartridge, especially in the long run, kaya po ink tank ang gusto ko. Correct me if I’m wrong po.

(Like print speed, Wi-Fi, automatic duplex, or other things worth considering.)

This 5k is from my savings sa baon ko, so gusto ko po talagang maging worth it yung magiging purchase ko.

If wala po talagang all-in-one na pasok sa budget ko, okay lang din po basta refillable ink tank siya, matipid sa ink, reliable, at pasok pa rin sa 5k budget. But if meron naman pong all-in-one within my budget, please let me know po. 🥹

If possible rin po sana, yung available sa orange app para madali ko pong ma-order. Wala rin po kasi akong masyadong time pumunta sa mall, so mas convenient po talaga if I can buy it online.

Any recommendations or tips would really mean a lot. Thank you so much po! 🤍

Where can I print one copy of my own children’s book?

I’m making a children’s book for my daughter who is turning one. I created my words and I’m making the illustrations myself in procreate. I want to eventually print it and gift it to her. How do I go about this? How should I take my illustrations from Procreate and send them out for printing? What file format is typical and what are some good printing services recommendations for a self made book?

Getting a lot of great feedback about staring a shop here! I appreciate it. For all the folks that do custom design work what tools and programs do you use? Most people suggest adobe for initial design. What other ways do people get good quality custom plates?

Printing on sand glitter sticker paper

Hi there!

An inkjet printer can print on sand glitter sticker paper? Or a laser printer? Or both? I haven't really found any information on this topic yet, so maybe you can help me.

Thanks!

I bought the Epson EcoTank 8550 because I wanted to print posters at home, but it's constantly giving me issues. What am I doing wrong?

I’m having constant issues with my Epson EcoTank 8550 when printing borderless 11x17 posters.

  1. The prints always come out a little misaligned, even when I only put one sheet at a time instead of stacking multiple sheets
  2. Ink builds up in the borderless sponge/overspray area, which causes that excess ink to get on the back of my paper

In the settings, I have "Thick Paper" turned on. This is a new printer but it's giving me a lot of headaches. Is there a different printer that is better suited for this task? Thank you!

EDIT: I've attached an example of the misalignment. On the bottom of the poster, there is a white line on the left side, and it disappears as it goes to the right:

Canon pro 1000 printer is fabulous (with drawbacks)

So a month ago I spent 1200 dollars on the printer. I bought it to print and sell giclee prints( for designs that I make myself ) but I just found out that the printer eats ink like a beast and each cartridge costs about 60 bucks. How do I minimize the ink waste?

Best options for DTG with no minimum?

I'm designing a t-shirt for a client who only want 1 shirt (possibly 1 of each variation I end up doing will he a print). I don't know much about printing on fabric but I read that DTG is the best affordable option. I'm just here to provide the files.

Where should I point my client to next?

Is this possible to get online? Is there a site you've personally used and are happy with? How long did you wait and has the print lasted?

A local print shop would be my choice but infortunately a lot of those are closing down and I don't know my client's location. Any reliable chains in the US?

TIA!

Starting a Print Shop

Hello, I am looking into starting my own print shop, I have little experience in the field which I know doesn’t help but just wanted to make sure I am going in the right direction. I am currently looking into acquiring two Roland XC-540 printers, one is in working condition and the other one is a parts printer. Is there anything I should look out for when trying to buy them? I am buying a lot of the equipment from an operational shop that is looking for an out. They include a laminator and media cutter as well as vinyl, fabric and laminates. Please let me know if there is anything to look out for and other advice getting this thing off the ground running. I have a few clients that would be interested in my services. Thank you in advance for the help and yes I may be in over my head but determined to make it work.

How are you securing confidential documents after they’re printed?

Most organizations have invested heavily in endpoint, network, and cloud security, but I rarely see the same level of discussion around printed documents.

We're curious how others approach this.

For example:

  • Secure release printing?
  • Badge authentication?
  • PINs?
  • Mobile authentication?
  • Audit logs?
  • Watermarks?
  • Something else?

Or is this one of those areas that’s only addressed after an incident happens?

Interested to hear what works (and what doesn’t) in your environment.
