Lagging when doing heavy design work.. is it my laptop or Affinity?

Hello everyone,

I recently switched from Adobe to Affinity and finished my final graphic design project with it. I expected Affinity to run better on my laptop, but it struggles with heavy design work. I'm talking about a 300DPI file with 20 pages of pixel drawings and a few vector graphics. I disabled acceleration, lowered the maximum RAM Usage, etc,, not helping much tbh

My laptop is HP Spectre x360 convertible with 16gb RAM, 512gb storage, and Intel Iris Xe Graphics. Bought it like 2-3 years ago.

So my questions are:
- Should I upgrade the RAM and the storage memory or buy a new one with better specs? I posted this in another subreddit, and they recommended upgrading the GPU.

- What kind of specs do you have to run the program smoothly?

A friend of mine has the Omnibook Flip with better specs (32gb RAM, 2TB storage), and suggested changing my laptop to something similar.

I appreciate your feedback!

PS: It said I have to post this in the general thread. It looks like a graveyard over there..

Upgrade or buy new? HP Spectre x360 convertible 14-ea1xxx

Hello everyone,

I recently finished my final graphic design project at uni and realized that my laptop cannot handle heavy design work. My laptop's model is as the title says—with 16gb RAM and 512gb storage. Bought it like 2-3 years ago.

My questions: should I upgrade the RAM and the storage memory or buy a new one with better specs? Which one would save me more money? Has anyone with a similar laptop done this before? afaik, it is possible to upgrade up to max. 32gb RAM, but because it is soldered, I have to consult someone from HP Service (will do this tomorrow).

More details about what I do:

- When making poster/banner/magazine layouts, I usually create different drafts. Usually 3 or more.

- Adobe suite used to be my go-to programs. Changed to Affinity because I like to do everything in one place.

- I LOVE VECTORS! SUCH A GAME CHANGER!! Alas, my laptop crashed so often from drawing several lines...

- Sometimes I also edit videos and do simple motion graphics

- I do digital drawings and occasionally play games (genshin). I don't play as often rn, but I might want to in the future..

A friend of mine has the Omnibook Flip with better specs (32gb RAM, 2TB storage), and suggested changing my laptop to something similar. Too bad it doesn't have a USB-A port..

My budget for a laptop is currently zero, so I'd appreciate your feedback!

vintage chinese calendar paper

Hello, does anyone know what kind of paper this is? I have been looking for this type of paper. When it comes to thinness, I guess it is similar to a fancy paper that is used at the bottom of the cake. Or a Chinese calligraphy paper? I'm not sure.. I don't have this kind of calendar to compare anymore..

Thanks in advance!
