poor verizon data coverage

hello everyone, I want to see if anyone else is experiencing poor data coverage on Verizon. My calls work fine but many times when I’m out in the neighborhood I just have one bar of data in certain spots and slow Internet speeds. I’m considering switching to Tmobile because of this

We should allow posting about primaries

just want to share to mods that i think posting about primaries is a very good use of this sub. primaries will shape the future of our community and it’s easier to have separate posts to discuss different issues

i certainly learned a lot from people replying to my posts and i think everyone was civil but of course I know it’s extra work for mods to monitor

with the lack of good local journalism, i think reddit serves as a good source for information sharing. Certainly this forum is better than the Facebook groups

hope mods can consider not restricting discussions to just one mega thread

About the casino

I've been trying to educate myself on the casino issue and catch up. I'm curious to learn what alternative folks against the casino propose:

  • Is it to just keep it as parking lots and wait for a future where the city can free up funding to revitalize it into parkland?
  • Or is it to continue to push and negotiate with Cohen for revitalization with hotels, but excluding a casino?

I'm also wondering to what extent is opening this casino different from New York legalizing online sports betting, which also has an adverse impact on the community but overall also provides other revenue

Similarly, the legalization of cannabis, which also brings in revenue now but can be abused and affect some people who will get addicted to it.

How is the casino issue different?

Ramos and Rojas need to work together to keep Monserrate out

hey everyone, I this will be my last post on this topic...I'm following up just to start a more diplomatic thread. As you can tell from my previous posts, I have a lot of questions but maybe I stirred strong emotions with all the questions and some of my doubts. I saw some comments that people dont even want to vote now and that's not what I want!!

First off, i'm not part of the Rojas campaign....I can't vote due to my immigration status but I think I have some influence over some friends / family who barely follow local politics. I only started posting about this since I saw much support for Ramos recently on our sub and I got concerned she might split the progress vote and enable a Monserrate win :(

We can all agree that Ramos and Rojas need to decide to work together to keep Monserrate out. I'm very concerned about all his posters I see. I dont see any local polling that will re-assure me that he's not a concern and just am relying on what I see on his strong funding and ground game.

I have a suggestion for both campaigns and I want to see if supporters can get behind this and influence the candidates to take on these positions and I want to know from people on the fence if candidates taking on these positions is enough to will win them over or not.

My suggestion to both progressive candidates:

To Ramos - please issue a sincere apology for Coumo endorsement and give us re-assurance that something like this wont happen again, that you wont support an immoral person and non progressive candidate in any other race that will shock us! I dont know why this is so challenging to do and it will help people on the fence about her. If she does this well, I think she seriously needs to get her ground game up. I've not seen any posters about her in JH!!

To Rojas - please explain your vote on the casino better and show openness to going against it in the Senate to make amends. Give an apology for voting for the casino without deeper community engagement since people are not happy. Give more transparency on your relationship with Cohen and how you'll totally cut off his influence. This should not be overlooked and needs a deeper discussion with everyone and follow through to win over voters.

What do you guys think of this ask to both campaigns is this enough? Otherwise share below what candidates can change to win you over (if anything) and maybe if anyone reading this thread has influence over the candidates, they will listen to us! whoever can capitalize on this first and gather more supporters should be able to win and the other person should really consider dropping. We only have a few weeks left! Please, let's not let Monserrate win. Let's work together and not split the vote!

Jessica Ramos paid off her anti-casino poll debt. But what did it cost?

I’m still trying to understand how Ramos thinks and skeptical of her after the Couno endorsement. so it seems she’s also not fully anti casino and took their money. i think we need better local reporting on this but how do people think about this with respect to her casino stance?

>When she finally did start paying it off, the first $5,000 chunk came right after Neal Kwatra, a lobbyist for the Bally’s Corp. bid in the Bronx and a longtime Ramos ally, donated $5,000 to her reelection campaign in September 2024

Does Ramos risk a Monserrate win?

Long post but I'm genuinely interested in hearing from everyone so we have a productive discussion...

I think that Jessica Ramos is risking splitting the progressive vote with Jessica Rojas and allowing a path for Hiram Monserrate's victory. Someone else posted recently that Monserrate posters are more visible in the neighborhood and I've also noticed this. I've seen Rojas and Monserrate posters but none for Ramos yet. Even though polls aren't perfect, does anyone know if there will be any polling released soon?

According to this Queens eagle article, all three have raised a lot of money:

>Ramos raised $103,000 in March, and still holds about that much on hand.
Ramos outraised Monserrate, her former boss, who pulled in just under $75,000 in the last month but has only around $2,000 less on hand than Ramos.
[González-Rojas] She raised $55,000 in the latest funding window and still has about $70,000 left on hand.

Has anyone seen other reports of cumulatively how much they have on hand remaining? I would think that Rojas had more money?? Or if anyone has time to go through the financing database and share numbers here, it would help!

Just curious but if Ramos has so much money, where is it going? I know there have been reports of her being in massive debt due to her Mayoral run (partly paid off by bronx casino).... is she failing to gather volunteers and organizing very poorly? Is she waiting to spend it all later on as we approach the June 23rd primary? Or are her visible supporters in a specific area of our district that I'm not visiting?

Monserrate received a sizable 40% of primary voters in a two way race in 2024 for NY Assembly and lost. However, how will he do in this three way race in the Senate?? He's running on an issue of cleaning up Roosevelt which is popular with many voters and I remember him getting press about it when Adams was in the news a lot for some Roosevelt massage spots getting closed

From another recent post supporting Ramos, I didn't realize so many people are willing to overlook her Coumo endorsement since she's anti casino (I dont have any strong thoughts on this). They also say she has successfully produced many legislation, however from what i've read it seems a large part of this is because she was appointed as Labor committee chair by Senate leadership despite being a freshman senator. From what I read, that appointment to Chair, rather than her skilled prowess as a politician and good relationships with colleagues gave her the opportunity to pass more bills. From all the negative reporting I've seen on her, I wonder if partly why she wanted to leave the Senate and run for Mayor was due to her fracturing relations with colleagues?

We just cannot over look the Coumo endorsement. More people would be open to considering her if she apologized for it and shared any insight on why she did it, but we get nothing. No staffers are even "leaking" anything to the press to defend her. All the anti-casino people support her for her stance... was that the reason why she she turned to Coumo? He promised her support against the casino? MAYBE we can be sympathetic to that political play and "pragmatic" move. However, without any of this information or reporting who's to say that she's not going to betray us again??? Heck, what if she drops out closer to the primary and supports Hiram because he offers her something! Does anyone know the logic she's using? Or what if there is another close race elsewhere and she supports the non progressive candidate there! Do we really want this risk with her as our state senator? I'm just still baffled by this and we should not move on from this without a good postmortem on why she made the decision she did. Please Ramos supporters, help us out? Did you hear anything in private? Did Coumo promise her help against the Casino or just a better job in his admin?

Ramos is in a problem of her own making. She should have known that if Coumo lost, she would get primaried. I am sympathetic to the anti casino group but why risk a Hiram victory?!

If Ramos TRULY cares about her political future, the neighborhood, and the casino issue, she should drop out and support Rojas. If she was willing to swallow her pride with Coumo, she needs to do the same with Rojas and build influence with her on the casino. Zohran and Hochul are at odds on many issues but look how much he's influenced her to deliver for this city in just six months! Ramos can step away from public office, regain her trust with the community and advocate against the casnio and leverage her political connections to influence those with power with popular support behind her. Maybe after a few years she will rebuild trust enough to run again and get the backing of progressive groups.

In short, people....why risk a Monserrate win?? Please Ramos supporters try to convince her to drop out and make the right endorsement this time!!

Lest we forget

I saw another post supporting Ramos so I’m putting this out there

I’ve not followed the casino situation but at the most fundamental level Ramos doesn’t show the judgment and temperament to be an elected leader.

Supporting Coumo after all the revelations about what type of person he was revealed much about her lack of character and values when it really counted and mattered to make a big change

Her twitter fued with AOC also is revealing of her lack of temperament and obvious desire for political ambition and attention

i have also heard she’s very full of herself and is a petty person. Has anyone heard similar? I am worried if she makes decisions based on who hurt her ego vs doing what’s best for the people

To the Ramos supporters, has there been any deeper reflection from her judgment mistakes and any remorse? I’ve not found this and for her to be considered at all, there should be a genuine apology. I don’t think she’s fit for office without showing any growth mindset
