Backyard Bird

3 days ago this bird randomly showed up and started making a little nest in this planter pot. It sits in the same spot pretty much the whole day and just kinda rotates around and faces different directions. There was another bird that was with it on the second day sitting in the nest helping bring sticks to build up the nest. I’m not sure what kind of bird it is, kinda reminds me of a pigeon but I don’t think it’s is. I’m also kind of concerned for its safety because from around 2-4 it gets very hot where I’m at and the little fella is in the direct sun for a few hours straight, will it be alright even though it’s gets to 90 degrees out and on really hot days can even hit the hundreds. I can’t tell if it’s pregnant or not and I’ve been waiting for it to get up so I can see if it’s sitting on any eggs. I thought about maybe trying to hang something near buy so it can get shade during the hottest part of the day but it seems to have been alright so far and I don’t want the heat and direct sunlight to kill the bird or the eggs if there are any. If anyone can tell me the name of the bird or anything about them I would like to say thank you in advanced. Also I’m in the Sacramento, California area if that helps any.
