I’m about to plan a trip in September 2027 with my 73 year old father. It’s 14 days and we plan to land from somewhere in NA in Cape Town (few other flights in between). We are near PHL, JFL, D.C. - all reachable. We can also fly to Atlanta without factoring in cost.

Here’s my primary ask. I have 2Million+ Amex points. I’d like to potentially use to upgrade business or first from a booked paid flight. What are my best options? He would really lke to do Emirates.. and I can afford to do the business on cash but 1st seems crazy. Mostly this feel like a trip I can spend some miles… I just don’t want to burn them.

One way or another I’m going but I expect to be near 3M points by time we fly so would be great to effectively use those point while heading to Cape Town and then North for Safari in about 16 month

What are my best options? it seems like Qatar is likely the best path for a Qsuite and booking Avois about 12 months out. have a bit of time and research to do but looking fore feedback.
