Finally found a small display shelf!

My grandmother collected trinkets when I was a kid. It was a right of passage to give her the small toys you grew out of. I remember coveting my tiny kinder egg surprise toys when I was a child in the 90’s (I was obsessed with anything super tiny). I felt so grown up when I gave them to my grandmother to put in her trinket box when I no longer played with them.

She passed away in 2020 and I inherited her trinket box, and all my childhood trinkets were returned back to me. Now I’m an actual adult with kids of my own, it felt like a full circle moment.

There are generations of trinkets, from her kids (who were children in the 50’s and 60’s) and my cousins and I (who grew up in the 90’s and early 00’s), now I’m adding trinkets from my kids (born post 2020). Though I’ve combined the trinket collection I started with hers, this isn’t even 1/4 of our combined collection. Finding shelves is quite tricky! But I’m hoping to display the entire collection one day.

Just wanted to share! 💛

Sample of Names of Actual People Born Between the 1928 to 1981

A few weeks ago I was going through files marked for destruction at work. I noticed that there was a huge array of names present, some of them I had never heard of before. I picked up a random folder and wrote down all the names (common and not so common to me) that were in it before destroying it. These folks were born between 1928 to 1981 and lived in Canada. I tried not to include repeated names, so that's why "common" names (to me) only appear once (Alex, Helen, Ian, George, etc.).

REMINDER: Some names are quite cultural/country specific. Please be kind, it's okay to not like a name but please don't rip it apart in the comments ❤️

I didn’t change any of the spelling, these were written as is in the file. Just wanted to note that since when I was looking up what I few of the names meant, Google would try to correct me. For example, Pronella may be a unique spelling of the name Prunella. But Pronella was what was noted.

My observations:

  • Jenora, Kenzie, and Eden sound surprisingly modern to me. If you asked me prior to this when any 3 were born, I would have likely said sometime in the 2010's. I know Eden is biblical (and therefore old), but I've only met younger Eden's, I have yet to meet a 40-80 year old named Eden (though clearly there is at least one out there!)
  • Daisy, June, and Winnifred have clearly circled back in popularity, even though I'm positive the women in the file had been born in the 30's/40's. I'm not convinced Doris, Dirk, and Norman will ever make a comeback from sounding dated to the 20's-40's though.
  • I cannot imagine a little baby being called Steadroy, I can only see the bearer of the name as an old man in plaid.
  • I get the sense Glenna, Earlene, Freda, and Georgette's names may have been influenced by their fathers (Glenn, Earl, Fred and George perhaps?).
  • I think Aldith could be a good alternative to someone who likes the name Edith. Luana could be a good replacement for someone who likes Luna. Both of which I hadn't heard before and find pretty cute!
