is straight perm worth it

5th summer in tokyo and i can not deal with my frizzy, humidity-induced mane anymore.

my hair changes its shape from straight to curly/wavy during summer and rainy season and becomes frizzy and no matter how much oil i put, blowouts i do, nothing works.

it goes back to being soft straight and frizz free in winter though.

im scared of damaging my hair and i have never gotten any permanent treatment done so i am a bit worried.

will the straight perm damage my hair bonds too much?

i have booked an appointment at Nok (shibuya) but if there’s a better, tried and tested salon for straight perm, please let me know! thank you!!

changing jobs with no gap, when do i actually file the immigration notification?

i resigned from my current job yesterday and signed the offer for my new job the same day. my last working day at the current place is june 30 and i start the new one july 1, so theres no gap in between.

im on a work visa (engineer/specialist in humanities/international services) and i know you have to notify immigration about the job change. but ive been confusing myself reading stuff online. some part of my brain thought i needed to tell immigration 14 days BEFORE quitting, but now im reading that the 14 days is actually AFTER the change happens, not before.

so my understanding now is:

• i dont file anything before june 30/july 1, because the dates havent happened yet and apparently it gets rejected as invalid if you file early

• i wait until july 1 (once both the resignation and the new job start have actually happened)

• then i file the notification on the electronic system, pick “new contract conclusion”, and just enter both the old job end date and new job start date since its seamless

• deadline is within 14 days so basically by july 15

can anyone who has done this confirm im reading it right? i resigned with proper notice to my employer already, thats sorted, im just talking about the immigration notification specifically. dont want to mess up something that affects my next renewal.

thanks in advance

rental storage containers

i’m in a pickle. i am moving from the outskirts of tokyo to much closer to the main tokyo area but mu partner and i can only actually move in to our new apartment after aug 1st. so in the meantime, i decided to move in with my partner since the commute to my new workplace would’ve taken me well over 2 hours (i changed jobs and i have to start my new job on july 1st) and also because i didnt want to keep paying rent when i wasnt using the house.

initially, we thought we could move all my stuff in his house but i think i have way too many boxes and it’ll be very difficult to put this all in his 25sqm 1K home.

i was looking into rental storage containers around setagaya or edogawa ku but most of them are expensive and i dont have a budget for it (the initial cost drained my savings).

i saw this service caller Monooq but it doesn’t have a lot of reviews for me to verify if its safe or not.

so if anyone that has used this service or know of a storage container thats like under 40k for 2 months, please let me know! i’d really appreciate it!

Akabane vs Sangenjaya, can’t decide which apartment to get

Hey, trying to pick between two apartments and I keep going back and forth, so figured I’d ask people who actually know these areas.

Akabane

• 2LDK, \~62㎡, very spacious

• 13th floor, can see the skyline and Tokyo Skytree

• Less than 1 min from the station

• ¥175,000/month

Sangenjaya

• 2LDK, \~49㎡, cozy

• 10th floor, nice central view, can see Carrot Tower

• 3 min from the station

• ¥185,000/month

Both buildings are around 50 years old.

Here’s where I’m stuck. Akabane is cheaper, bigger, basically on top of the station, and connects to every major line in Tokyo. My commute from there is 30 min vs 45 from Sangenjaya. On paper Akabane wins.

But the east side of Akabane station is kind of a red light district and the vibe just feels off to me. My partner actually prefers Akabane, so it’s not them, it’s me.

Sangenjaya is more my speed. Chic, lots of little wine bars and small shops, one stop from Shibuya on the express. The catch is the apartment is noticeably smaller. Fine for two people but a bit tight.

Both areas have everything you need for daily life, Akabane has three shopping centers right by the station, Sangenjaya’s well covered too.

So for anyone who’s lived in either: does the Akabane east-side thing actually matter day to day once you’re settled in, or do you just stop noticing it? And would I end up regretting the smaller Sangenjaya place? Appreciate any advice/suggestions.

EDIT: i’m a foreigner(F) and my partner is japanese(M)

can they fire a seishain?

I will try to be a bit vague because some of my coworkers use reddit.

I have been working for this company for about a year and a half. Probation ended last summer.

Last week they sat me down and said two things: my performance isn’t where they want it, and they don’t have projects to put me on for budget reasons. So they’re “not renewing” my contract from July. The thing is, my contract has no end date, so I’m not sure what they think they’re renewing.I am a seishain.

They offered me a deal: study at home through June (still paid), retake the company’s new hire skills test plus finish my whole training program by mid June, and if I “pass” they’ll keep me. If not, they won’t renew my contract.

Today they added two more things. They said if they fire me it’ll look bad on my record so it’s “better for me” to quit on my own. And they said since they gave me 30 days notice, they can legally terminate me anyway.

I have a recording of the original meeting where they say it’s “the company’s decision” and that they’re struggling to find me work.

So i have a few questions:

• Are they bluffing when they say they won’t renew my “contract”?

•	Is “quit yourself so it doesn’t look bad” actually better for me? I know they’re pushing me to resign but as far as I know being dismissed doesn’t affect your future employment or am I wrong?

Any advice on next steps would mean a lot. Thanks.

did you guys see this video? inframe: raasushii

this girl lives in japan and she was talking about a kind gesture but many people started attacking her because they thought she was defaming india…she didn’t even mention india in her video..

i don’t think she said anything wrong and i think people are becoming very comfortable on the internet to attack random people like this :/
