Is Just Chatting basically the "final boss" for small streamers?

I’ve been trying to figure out if Just Chatting is even worth the effort when you’re just starting out. Ngl, it’s the most crowded category on the platform, and if you’re at 0 or 1 viewer, you’re basically a ghost on page 50. I realized pretty quick that no matter how talkative I am, nobody is actually scrolling that far down to find a new conversation.

I’ve been trying to treat my channel more like a legit setup this week instead of just hitting "go live" and praying for a miracle. I spent a ton of time on my panels, fixed my lighting, and I've even been messing with streamskill a bit just so the room doesn't look like a total graveyard from the second I start. I’m just hoping that if the place at least feels "lived-in" and active when a random person happens to click, they might actually give the stream a chance instead of dipping immediately.

It’s definitely not a magic fix for the content itself, but it makes the whole vibe feel a lot less awkward while I'm still trying to find my footing. It’s much easier to keep the energy up when the chat doesn't feel like a silent warehouse.

Does anyone else feel like you need some kind of "pulse" in the room before real people will even give you a chance? Or did you guys find that staying in smaller niche categories is the only real way to actually get found on day one? I’m still trying to figure out the best way to not look like a ghost town.

Can we collectively agree that 'just stream on a schedule' is fake advice?

If one more big creator tells a small streamer "just stay consistent bro", I’m gonna lose it. I’ve streamed 5 days a week, exact same time, for over a year straight. Haven't missed a single day. Put in the hours, ground through the burnout, did everything "by the book". Checked my 365-day stats today: my average viewer count is identical to last year.

It’s a giant lie. Consistency without discoverability is literally just a lonely schedule. You can be the most disciplined, funny, engaging person on the internet, but if Twitch buries you on page 45 of a category, zero human beings will ever click your channel to find out.

I’m exhausted from grinding into the void. Anyone else feel like they followed all the "rules" and just hit a concrete wall?
