Old medical parlance.

Anyone else use old medical words or phrases in their notes? Being th autistic that I am and medicine being my special interest, I have a fascination with the history of medicine and how clinical notes and letters are written.

I use things like:

"No stigmata" for the general exam and "HS dual & pure" for the heart (which I was pleased to see a cardiologist used in a letter!).

I do like a nicely written referral letter but I think these are being replaced by forms.

At my surgery there are still some very old notes in storage, one I read recently said "1971.....Feels quer after attending (could not read the next five words.....O/E NAD".

Im an ANP hopefully heading to GEM.

Nurse ACP to GEM

Hi all

I've decided at 39 to start GEM.

I've been a nurse since 2009, ex military etc.

I've got no A levels and poor GCSEs (I struggled as I have dyslexia and dyscalculia). But I do have a DipHE in adult nursing, a PGCert in ENT and an MSc (pass) in advanced clinical practice. I've also got a professional diploma from the Royal College of

Surgeons Ed.

I contacted Newcastle about their GEM program but the admin team kept going on about a HE access diploma. Kings has a new healthcare professional entry course too.

I'm not going to apply until 2028 as I'm saving.

Anything else I can do to improve my chances?

I am going to study for the UKCAT.

Thanks 👍

Nurse ACP - can't get into PHEM, so para it is then!

Hi all

Keen to hear your thoughts.

I've been a nurse nearly 18 years. Ex military,.done lots of stuff. Across lots of specialities. I have an MSc in ACP and currently work in primary and urgent care. I also have the DIMC RCSED. I've worked in event medicine. I've done aeromedical.evacution on fixed wing airframes, including level 3 retrieval. ALS and PHEC instructor.

But none of this means I can do PHEM. It's been a battle for most of my career. So I thought sod it,.ill do the MSc paramedic course then I can finally do HEMS / PHEM. I don't live in an area with a BASICS scheme and the ones close by don't use non doctors.

Waste of money?
