Is it better to just find a job outside of SYEP? (bad worksite placement)
Waited on line yesterday at my provider for 2.5 hrs, was told ~30-40 diff job titles with no details and had to pick one quickly. After I picked my site I got handed the specific address and was sent off, so I found out too late that its a bit of a difficult/distant commute for me.
I emailed immediately asking to swap. They responded a day later about an available option and I replied in under 2 min. 6 hrs later they replied again saying the job got taken during today's placement event (which started hours AFTER I replied) and now there's nothing left.
I know spots fill quickly ofc, but I'm just upset that I DID go early and was given zero info in a very rushed process. I have no idea why they couldn't have just done this online or at least posted the options beforehand. This is my first time doing SYEP so idk if this is standard protocol.
Vent aside, I'm stuck with a worksite that's just not even really worth commuting for. Is there any chance of getting a spot elsewhere if I wait? Should I suck it up and do it anyway, or would I be better off trying to find a summer job outside of SYEP?
