38(t) cutaway progress.

Oh man, this thing has been a journey. I think I've painted the extior close to four times. Big job..when im only using a hairy stick. I decided to do the tank grey scale, like an old photo and paint the interor in colour. This is a sort of reminder that when we look at old photos of destroyed tanks, no mater what side, chances are there were people inside.

Im trying to keep the painting of the figures soft and loose, almost stylised with atmosphere being the focus instead of the usual straight realism.

Ive been going back and forth with how to paint the interior around the figures, original I was going for 'tenebrism' so essentially blacked out with harsh deliberate lighting, but that come across more like i was trying to 'hide' the back ground, even when painted with Maxx darth (GSW paint). I tried to go with a softer desaturated look, like your eyes have adjusted to the dark interior.

It still needs some more small details added, but ive never been the type to completely finish building then paint. Figuresnand turret arent fox in place yet. Ill most likely keep modifying the body right up until its done.

I wasnt expecting the grey scale of the exterior to be so challenging, I really did need to lean some colour theory and put it into practise. Turns out the black and white paint i use was too cold and kept turn the panzer to a kind of .. bluey panzer grey, so i need to add umber to stop if from going blue.

The real challenge was trying to make a panzer grey tank look grey scale. I think because most of use know what panzer grey looks like, the tank looks like its the wrong grey. Adding details that would have been other colours helps with the illusion. I think if this were to be put on a grass base that was also greyscale it would help.. but im not taking the easy road lol. This baby will be on a plinth of some sort.

So still a ways to go (i can see unpainted plasic in the drive sprocket) I also lost the drivers window during a move so I have to make do and use a spare from the cupola lol.

Im hoping end of September this girl will be done, Ive already got my next 1/16 lined up for a similar treatment. Thanks for checking out my post!

Panzer 38(t) 1/16 cutaway.

Ive always like the idea of doing acut away but found they look a little too 'meusem-y', so I thought to project the rectangular cut away on to the tank. Now when viewed from the correct angle it aligns to a perfect frame. Doing this also helps with the composition of the figures. This build is more about the vibes than accuracy, infact i chose this model simple because it has a ful interior. Im trying to capture the claustrophobic, dark hot feel and the panic of a crew whoes gone unchallenged until they're first brush with resistance.

There are still details i need to add to the interior, however the outside will remain quite simple as it's just a frame for the figures. I've air brushed primer and highlights but the rest of the build will be painted by brush. Infact the intent is for this to look more like a painting than a standard build, a little more impressionistic if you want to call it that.

The way i went about cutting the frame was in 2 attempts. 1st attempt i used a projector to overlay the box, I pencilled on the frame but went it came to cutting out i wasn't happy with how rough it was. The 2nd attempt, I scanned the tank and imported to blender. I used a box and boolean tool to position where I wanted the frame. When I was happy, I kept the negative of the box, added a thickness to it and printed it out (image 5). The negative fit snug over the tank i used a blade to scribe through the body for a sharp and accurate cutaway. Thanks for checking it out.

"If it helps, I didnt have seconds"

Speed ran a kit I had laying around. I try to make something a more little hearted every once in a while.

Bust I modelled and painted based off the art work from Eliran Kantor.

Model was made in blender then printed and painted. More or less an excuse to test some blood effect paint.

Ma.K MK44

Maschinen Krieger Mk 44 kit. The claw was based from a hasegawa excavator kit, greebles and operator we're model in blender and printed. The graffiti was all sketch work and most of it doesnt really say anything lol. Chipping and weathering is standard stuff, nothing special. Signage on the large port side panel was done with laser.

My aim here was to try capture something a little more grounded, almost mundane.

This was up briefly last night but I had a typo in the name plate and deleted it lol.

Feeling out blood effects before taking on a bigger project.

Whipped up the bust in blender and printed it in for the sole purpose of using some AK blood paint. Figure is based off the art work Eliran Kantor.
