I’ve seen the whole “straight 6 & 9” = fake Clean Factory” rumor making the rounds again, so I wanted to share some actual evidence that suggests otherwise.
I also wanted to make this post because I constantly see people asking whether their Clean is fake solely because it has a straight 6 or 9 on the rehaut. Hopefully this helps clear up some of the confusion.
When this rumor first started, I spent quite a bit of time researching it. I went back through QC posts from over two years ago and found multiple older Clean Factory watches, including early V1s with L6V6 serials, that have the exact same open “6” rehaut font that some people now claim is proof of a fake Clean.
I also have a pretty large Clean Factory collection, with many of my watches purchased before Clean shut down and before counterfeit Cleans became a thing.
Among them are:
V1 CF Rootbeer (L6V6 serial)
V1 CF Bluesy
Both were purchased from reputable sellers, and both have (straight 6s & 9s) on the rehaut.
For anyone interested, I’ve attached links below to several older QC posts of Clean Factory watches purchased from reputable TDs 1–2 years ago. If you scroll through the QC photos, you’ll find clear pictures of the rehaut serials showing the same open/straight 6s and 9s that some people now claim indicate a fake Clean Factory. I encourage everyone to look through them and draw their own conclusions.

There are many more. These are just the first few I found after a few minutes of searching.
To me, this makes it pretty clear that Clean has used different rehaut engraving fonts over the years. An open or closed 6 or 9 by itself simply isn’t a reliable way to determine whether a watch is genuine CF.
Can fake Cleans exist? Absolutely. Some of the better counterfeit Cleans even copy the correct serial font and engraving depth. That’s why the source of the watch matters far more than whether a single number on the rehaut is straight or curved. If it wasn’t purchased from someone with a reputation to uphold, I’d be skeptical regardless of the font.
If anyone has solid evidence proving otherwise, I’d genuinely like to see it. I’m always open to changing my opinion when presented with credible evidence. But based on everything I’ve researched, the watches I personally own, and the older QC posts I’ve linked above, I believe the whole “straight/curved 6 & 9” theory is simply a myth.

Thought I’d share my journey into reps and the collection I’ve built over the last 2 1/2 years.
Back in November 2023, I walked into Rolex and put my name on the waiting list for a Blue Datejust 36. After a few months went by, I decided to go down the rabbit hole and research who made the best replica of the watch I wanted.
In January 2024, I bought my first Clean Factory Datejust 36. I instantly fell in love with it and ended up buying three more. Fast forward to today, and I now own 18 Clean Factory watches (yes, they’re all real, and the majority were purchased before Clean shut down 😂).
About 70% of these were purchased from reputable TDs such as Steve (TheOneWatches), Jtime, and Geektime. The rest came from trusted resellers like CtrlAltRep, Mo-Time, and a few others.
I know a lot of people are going to ask, “Why only Clean Factory?” And the answer is pretty simple. Over the last 2 1/2 years, I bought a few VSF pieces to try them out, but I ultimately found myself preferring Clean Factory. No deeper reason than that.
One of the best parts of this hobby has been the people I’ve met along the way. This community has been nothing but great to me, and some of those connections have even turned into lifelong friendships.
