I want to talk about Gaston.
Okay so all of us have characters we like or hate and it is very influenced by what movies we watched or not, or just the vibe in the game.
But there is one character I have a major issue with and I need somehwere to vent about this because it's just so egregious, way worse than any other character I've encountered.
Gaston in Beauty in the Beast is not goofy funny or cute due to being dumb.
Gaston is one of the most important formative villains in Disney's history.
The entire point of this character was to show kids that the Beast was a good person despite being ugly, and Gaston was a horrible person despite looking good.
Not only does the game completely ignore this and include a lot of lines where your character talks to him like he's a cutie pattoootie harmless baby...
They also seem to think it's perfectly normal to harass Belle non stop, which he does in the movie AND was also important. It teaches kids that stepping over people's boundaries is NOT OK. EVER.
Listen, I had a helicopter mother that damaged me emotionally a lot, and yet, Mother Gothel is still depicted as a villain which is why I am ok with her. It's your choice to go along with her schemes or praise her. Whatever.
But Gaston, this horrible human being who wanted to basically extort Belle to marry him (there's another word for this), and wanted to literally murder the Beast using an entire town of peasants to chase him........ he's supposed to be just a dummy, and funny?
Come on. Be serious.
I know a lot of people today don't like the classic Disney films for whatever personal reason but Beauty and the Beast was so important at the time it was even Oscar nominated. And yet you're misrepresenting one of the most pivotal villains of all time.
I find this, honestly, apalling. And sure I have my own thoughts about other male narcissistic characters but thats another topic.
Gaston specifically? He was a villain, always was. I don't want him as an ally that casually sells items like Kristoff or whatever.. I should have the option to talk to him and treat him the same way I can talk down to Gothel, Ursula or any other villain.
