AITA: uncomfortable encounter gas station
I was driving my toddler and I home and I was turning into a gas station. Another car last minute decided to turn too and pulled in. I parked at the pump behind them and opened my toddler’s door so my toddler could watch me pump (and not freak out). The car pulled around to the other pump, stared at me, then pulled up more and one of the passengers got out. He was clearly from a church and asked to talk to me, but having my toddler there and being a woman alone I told him I wasn’t interested. He was persistent and would not leave me alone despite me saying no. the driver got out and talked to me too and wanted me to shake their hand. I was so uncomfortable and shut my toddler‘s door at one point. I felt like this was calculated and targeted waiting until I was pumping gas to try and talk to me about their church. I think it was highly inappropriate when I was saying no and to leave me alone. they wouldn’t stop until I was done pumping (which I should’ve just stopped pumping and left, but i was just hoping they would leave me alone).
Women have to be careful all the time, especially with children by themselves. I just am still shaken up that they thought this was okay.
They didn’t even get gas and I waited for them to leave before driving away.
it’s great that people find their faith and all but it should not be used to target people in situations like at a gas station alone. Let alone men should know women will always be uncomfortable being randomly approached. Just leave us alone.
Next time I plan to bring my phone out with me and call someone if I am ever in that situation again.
