Dad

Hi

Mu dad is 73 and in hospital after a fall. They now suspect he has Parkinson’s. Over the past 3 years we have seen a steady decline in dad’s mobility.
With things progressing more recently after the passing of my mum.
He used a walker, needs assistance with most things, is now having a lot of trouble feeding himself. Since the fall he cant walk, has stood a couple of times. But is now in the rehab with the hospital.
He also has sever emphysema which makes things even more difficult.

Reading on here i can see he has had symptoms for 20+ years but were mild and put down to other things.

Not sure i have a question. But just trying wrap my head around whats to come. And if he is now going to be bed bound.

Dad

Elderly dad has COPD (emphysema) hasn’t been staged, i assume stage 4.
He gets breathless just walking to the lounge from bedroom.
The last 6 months he has had around 5 flares.
He has recently lost 4kgs and is down to 41kg. He has always been a smaller man and not a big eater. But this is the lowest he has ever been.
My mum recently passed away, and i think this is adding to his loss of appetite.

Im really concerned about his weight-loss.

Any tips on how i can help??

Dad

My dad has sever emphysema/copd. Mobility and other health issues.
My mum has recently passed and was his caregiver. Now we have to work out care options for dad. We are looking at supports to keep him at home, which is what he wants.
Also looking at nursing homes, which he is also opening up to the idea.
And I’m thinking of becoming his carer myself, but i currently live 4 hours away. So it would be a big life change for me.
Looking for some insight to what becoming a carer would be like?
Are you happy with your choice to become your parent’s caregiver?

What to do.

My mum has recently passed unexpectedly. She cared for my dad.
Now we are left to work out what to do.
My dad had copd, mobility issues.
I am considering moving 4 hours to live with him. The other option is he tries to live alone( i don’t see this working) or a nursing home eventually.
What things should consider before making this decision?
