I’ve been pretty quiet the last month or so mainly due to being a migraine sufferer and the summer always makes them so much worse. Anyway, I’ve finished the nightmare collection but I remembered that Alex said to put a pic of my set in here so I thought I’d do that now before I forget 😂
I didn’t take a lot with me because I honestly wasn’t sure what to actually bring a long but my stitched art dolls were the fan favourite this time compared to last time which was the little ghosts.

Now that I’m pretty much recovered from the event I can actually try to take part in the monthly challenge this month

Reaching out across the bedside table for your water bottle that you know is already empty. Despite for a drink you clamber down the stairs and head to the kitchen. On those warm summer nights the darkness doesn’t feel as think but as you open the fridge door, the light from within shines throughout the room and leaves a shadow leaning around the doorway. It’s probably a coat hanging strangely you think to yourself but you still can’t work out why is there a srip of light at the top?

This is a part 5 of my nightmare collection, a series of ink paintings and soft sculptures I’ve creating to give those uneasy feelings a physical form.

Number 6 is ready to post too but I’ve been so busy I haven’t had change to take the pics for it yet. Getting ready for an art fair this weekend and sorting out stuff for band too. But I’ll get back in track with the monthly challenges again once things settle down a bit.

Was just about to post the 5th nightmare and realised I had forgotten to post the 4th one 🤦

You’re wandering home late at night, it’s cold, it’s dark and you’re alone. You don’t quite feel alone though, instead your feel like you’re being followed. You look but no one is around, well except for that dog. At least, you think it’s a dog, it’s got 4 legs and a tail so it must be, right? You can’t quite see it properly as it’s hidden in the shadows but maybe that’s a good thing.

A fourth nightmare is following from behind the the shadows, watching you.

When you roll over in bed, look across at that jacket hanging in the back of your door but something just… feels off. You try to adjust your eyes but it still doesn’t look solid enough. If it’s not a jacket… when what else could it be?

The art prompt was “something Sid from Toy Story would make”

I used a head from a porcelain doll and sculpted everything else by hand using aves apoxie sculpt. Primed with gesso and painted with inks, a little bit of resin in the brain and then finished with a matte varnish spray sealer.

Made a little progress video of my sculpture for the May submission to post on my socials. Always happy to answer questions on materials, techniques etc
I’ll try to take better photos for the next one and film more of it.

When you’re falling asleep infront of the tv and spot something out the corner of your eye, “Is that… a spider?” But, it can’t be. It’s far too big and doesn’t have enough legs. Right?

I make art dolls of cryptids and folklore creatures and mothman definitely gets the most love so I thought I’d share him here 🖤

After waking up to all your lovely comments, I spent this morning finishing up my version of Sid’s toys.
I used the head off a porcelain doll, removed the hair from the cap and replaced it with a brain I made with aves apoxie scuplt.
Then I make the tentacles using a wire armature wrapped in tin foil and more apoxie scuplt to finish them off and also to attach the head to the body. After a lot of smoothing out the apoxie, I then a sanded it all down before doing two coats of gesso as the primer.
For the brain I painted a very light pink acrylic over the primer then used red ink to make it a little more bloody 😅 and a thin coat of uv resin to keep it looking wet.
I also used inks to paint this as they are water based so easy to wash off if I didn’t like it. Which I did multiple times 😂
I first painted the face the same as the body but it looked way to dark so washes it off and finally settled for a wet wash of sepia mixed with red ink.
I figured that Sid wouldn’t bother colour matching his toys so decided to try to keep it in theme. And that’s it, all I have to do now it give her a coat of varnish but she’s done!

Thank you all for your kind words on the unfinished pic from the other day. Let me know if I ruined it with the colour scheme as that was the thing I was struggling with the most.

I didn’t finish in time but I will still work on this one and post the finished piece when I can.
Heat wave and migraines don’t mix well 😫 was hoping to finish it over the weekend but had a death in the family.
Looking forward to the next prompt, hopefully I’ll finish that on in time 😂

I’m using inks and water bleeding techniques for the painting and making art doll versions using black crushed velvet sewn around a wire armature frame. The eye is painted with a glow in the dark paint so it can watch you while you sleep.
