Reason why Crow Mama Would Suddenly Stop Visiting Halfway During Nesting Season?
For the past few months my partner and I have been fairly consistently visited by a Mama Crow that swings by our balcony for fresh water, unsalted peanuts and the occasional boiled egg treat. This past April, we were lucky enough to have front row seats to her and her mate building a nest and hatching 2-3 babies in the tree across the street. However, despite visiting a few times per day while she was on the nest, this past week she suddenly stopped visiting entirely. Her mate and helpers are still going back and forth to the nest to feed the babies, who are about 2.5ish weeks old I believe, but despite actively checking to see if she was around, we haven’t seen her at the nest.
She has pretty noticeable white patches on her wings and tail that aid us in identifying her, so we’ve been trying to keep track of the crows going to and from the nest. At first we thought she might have lost those white feathers or they grew out, but molting season isn’t until late summer and even if the feathers were replaced, it still wouldn’t explain why she would stop coming.
It seems like the babies are being taken care of by the father and helpers, but we’re worried about our crow friend and wonder if something happened…
Since this is our first year experiencing this, we were wondering if anyone has any idea/experience with this and know what might be happening (that hopefully might alleviate our concerns over our crow friend potentially passing away)
