Hello,
I’m trying to figure out the best option for my partner and I. I am Canadian, and my partner is British.
I moved to the UK to live with my partner in April 2024 on a Youth Mobility visa. I would like to switch to a family visa in April 2027.
We are engaged, and our original plan was to get married before I switched visas and worry about a wedding later on. However, we both feel like having a wedding later on would just feel like a massive waste of time and money, as it would feel like we’re celebrating something twice.
The alternative would be to wait to get married and for me to instead go on an Unmarried Spouse visa.
My question is, how much more difficult is it to prove a genuine relationship if we’re unmarried, but have been cohabiting for 2+ years? Is it the better option to just go ahead and get married at a register office?
Thanks.
