Producing / Mixing guitar fx
I produce/mix my own stuff and have been confused about guitar specifically for a bit. For context, I go DI to interface and use amp sims in the daw. My specific question is about stereo imaging and best practices.
When I am writing guitar parts, I love using chorus/delay/verb - via a pedal that’s within the amp sims or etc.
The question -
When it comes to FX that are a part of these amp sims, what’s the best way to go about using them when thinking long term toward the mix? With acoustic guitar, I record 2 takes in mono, pan one left a % and one right a %, then send a portion of them both to a stereo bus with verb. But with electric guitar, it’s more confusing for me because things like chorus, overdrive, feel like they are part of the sound…
Also - If I use these FX, I’ll obviously need to load the plugin in Mono->stereo mode, which makes things a even more confusing when I’m thinking of the stereo image.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance!
