What could this be?

The first pendant is the one in question. It’s a second hand piece and there is no certificate. The second one (heart shape) is definitely dyed because it glows on the one side for sure under UV. I’m wondering if anyone could help me figure out what it is.

It doesn’t seem to have the same sound when I hit it with another jade piece. It does sound a bit more hollow, but it’s hard to tell for me. If it’s real jade, it’s at the icy/ glass level and I know it’s not! At the same time, I’ve yet to see an icy/glass level jade piece in person to compare. The fact that it’s 18k gold and diamonds throws me off because why would they use real gold on a fake jade? At the same time the acid test maybe not deep enough and that it could also be gold filled. I supposed if they went the route of faking jade then the gold itself maybe a sham too?

Before I decide to take it to a gemologist, any idea what it could be?

Jade is priceless?

Can anyone tell me the actual proverb if it actual does exist 😀: a Chinese proverb says, “Gold is valuable, jade is priceless.”

Lavender

I’ve come to realize lavender jade can look so different in different lighting. It makes it hard to make a purchase online considering you don’t know how it would really look in person. It is so photogenic that the purple will always look better in photos. I do like this cheaper version, but I find it mostly white in
appearance most of time.

Structure lines/cracks or dyed?

I finally got a UV light to test Jade and it’s actually confusing to me. My one bangle that I assume is natural seems to have these lines around it (see video). Is that normal? Is dyed resin more glowy? There’s one pendant that I was so sure is dyed, but under the UV light, I only saw a bit of white glow on the edge. What are the sure signs of treated and dyed resin under UV light?

Does this show dyed or treated?

I tested a few pieces under UV and some has lines glowing, but I know wax also does that. None of the pieces were glowing like the ones I’ve seen to be for sure dyed. This one however, seems to have a bit more thick lines to it. Is that normal too? Could it be just wax material?

Recommendations?

Hi all,

I didn’t see a review for the seller Jade Rabbit Gems from Etsy and want to know if anyone has dealt with them? Would you recommend?

Small bangle discount😅?

So I’ve been wondering if I could fit smaller sizes since I’m reading advices that round bangles can fit smaller up to 2 mm. So I thought to try it out with a cheaper bangle I got. Yay it wasn’t so bad to fit a 52.5mm! I bet I can do 52 mm no problem! I wear 54.8mm comfortably with minimal force through my hand. I guess I can get smaller hand discount?!? If it didn’t hurt much with plastic bag and lotion, should I be able to also do D shape ok in that size?

Agate vs. Jadeite

I know the texture of jadeite is much nicer and especially when you get into the higher end stuff, but why is agate so much cheaper? An abundance? I just got this cherry blossom agate bangle (first pic, on the right) and the texture is quite pretty. I started researching more agate pieces and some are quite interesting (see second pic from a seller I found). Any input on why jadeite vs agate? The hardness is about the same for both types and since they are so closely related, why is one so much more expensive? Is it more common to dye agate? Would there be a way to tell if the agate in the second pic is dyed?

OMG would you do this?

Watching her do this made me cringe a bit. Would you do this to authenticate your jade? 😂 So can jadeite really withstand this much localized force? I mean I do hit my bangle accidentally and it made me a bit worry but from this video it sounds like it can handle it. But I remember how I was able to crack my daughter’s bangle to get it off of her and it wasn’t that hard. Making me second guess if it’s jadeite.

Where can I find something like this…

Not sure if they make this type of jewelry in jade, but I’m looking for a locket like the one in the picture with possibly jade decorations on it. I don’t think lockets are a popular thing anymore so I don’t know if there’s any demand for this kind of jewelry. Let me know if you know of any seller that sells this. Thanks! I prefer white metal variety.

Type of jadeite?

I got this a while ago and trying to figure out if this is actually treated jadeite. It is white 18k gold with a diamond centre. Would they actually waste all this work on a dyed jade?

Opinion needed on bangle style

Hi all. I’m trying to decide on two bangles of different shapes. One is round cut and the other is a D shaped cut. I’m just wondering what’s the pros and cons of the two different kinds. Is one shape stronger than the other? Is it the comfort?

Checkmate

Check out my “jade” chess set. Yes these warriors are not real jade, but it is still a pretty set to play with. I wonder though if they have something like this in real nephrite. How much would it cost?

Jade? Type?

I know the only way to know for sure is to get them tested. Just by pictures alone could you say it looks like jade? Dyed? Seller is selling as vintage jade tea set. It’s cool and I’m tempted but if it’s dyed material I’m not interested in using this for my tea drinking pleasure. What material does it look like if it’s not jade?

u/MonArch-2020 — 2 months ago

I see some lovely stacking options on these subs, but I’m still a little worried about them getting damage. What do you think about stacking this jadeite bangle with this nephrite bead bracelet? Should I put something in between like a twine bracelet (safe non metallic material) or should I just not put them together at all?

Can you tell me what you think of these jade earrings? I’m thinking dyed again but it is set in 18k gold and receipt from previous owner was in the low thousands.
