What would cause a SEAL to not (be able to) earn his jump wings?

I was looking thru some pics of an SQT graduation, & I noticed a unicorn. One of the SEALs grouped w/ the instructors & mentors didn't have any jump wings. He was wearing a Trident, had 3 ribbons (GWOT, Exp Rifle, Exp Pistol) & a badge of some kind but it wasn't jump wings. Quality of the pic wasn't good enough to blow up & see what badge it was. And not having any campaign ribbons in that group was also unusual.

All I could think of was this guy had a sad story of some kind. Maybe something similar to one of the graduates who was getting his Trident but was having to repeat SQT due to an injury. But even that graduate had his jump wings.

eta: he was enlisted & didn't look old enough to have pre-dated the days of SQT.

Did you carb load before deployments?

Just wondering how many of you carb loaded before deployments & how much weight you typically gained.

Mine would usually gain 30-40 lbs.

Sam's Brand New Gas Pumps & old Sam's cards

The Odessa Sam's has brand new gas pumps, but I don't know if the Midland Sam's does (yet). Anyway, I just discovered that my old Sam's card won't work w/ the new pumps. I tried multiple pumps & got the same verification error for each. Yet my card still works fine inside the store & I was told a lot of people were having problems w/ their cards at the new pumps. The attendant had to use her access card to get me pass the initial membership card screen to the payment screen in order for me to get gas. But it looks like I'm going to have to get a new card if I don't want to run into this problem again.

Villarreal's death was self inflicted

https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/12/us/midland-texas-active-shooter

Article cites a law enforcement source saying Villarreal's death was self inflicted. Article also says the "jack-knifed" semi was deliberately blocking access to keep people away from the shooting.

I would still like to know who/why he was shooting at before LEO responded to the shots fired call.

Am I the only one...

that suspects Reddit employs some nefarious tactics to try & shut down anyone who doesn't follow their hive minded, echo-chamber philosophy? In the screw worm thread, I made a post about fly traps that was seriously down-voted. Now why would anyone in their right mind downvote something that could help protect people & their pets from a new threat in our community? They wouldn't. Add to it that (compared to other subreddits) the Midessa & Midland_Tx subreddits don't have that many members. So I have serious doubts that this large of a percentage of locals would have the reading comprehension of a 2 year old.

This is not the first time I've noticed this happening nor am I the only one I've seen it happen to. I've noticed lots of perfectly logical & sometimes helpful posts in every subreddit I've ever subscribed to get seriously downvoted for no apparent reason. And when I check the profile for that poster, I almost always find their history reflects someone who thinks for themselves & doesn't regurgitate the normal Reddit talking points.

So what say you? Do you suspect there's something rotten in the state of Denmark?
