Hi everyone!
I've been lurking here for a little while now, and I've become really interested in learning more about folk Catholicism.
For a bit of background, I'm a convert to Catholicism from Eastern Orthodoxy. I'm already deeply interested in Christian mysticism and I practice contemplative prayer, so exploring folk Catholicism feels like a natural next step.
That said, I do have one concern. While I'm interested in folk Catholic practices, I don't want to incorporate practices that are explicitly pagan or witchcraft-related. No judgment toward those who do—that's just not something I feel called to or that I think would be helpful for my own spiritual life.
So my question is: is it possible to practice folk Catholicism while remaining fully committed to the Catholic faith? In other words, can I embrace folk Catholic practices while continuing to believe in the Trinity, accept the Church's dogmas, read Scripture, go to Confession, receive the Eucharist, and otherwise live as a faithful Catholic?
If the answer is yes, where would you recommend I start? Are there any folk saints I can start venerating, any resources I can read (I know there's a pinned post here with resources and I plan to check out the resources there too) , etc?
Thanks in advance! I'm looking forward to learning from you all.
Honestly, I went into it with low expectations, but I just finished it and I think it deserves way more credit and much better reviews that it gets.
First of all, let me mention what i disliked about the game: a couple of levels drag on and are longer than they needed to be. The dam level is a good example of this, it lasts way over 40 minutes and is pretty tiring to play through. The final mission also isn't the best with those OMEN guns that kill you in 1 hit. There's some parts that are excruciatingly difficult. Also, it doesn't make sense how you get blamed for the "death" of 007. There's literally nothing you could have done lol.
However, I think everything else is actually very good. The gameplay is really fun! The dual wielding mechanic and being able to use the powers of two guns of whatever types you want at the same time felt really cool. You can wield a shotgun and an explosives-launcher pistol at the same time and blast through the enemies, for example. You can also take hostages and use them as human shields, which gives you some time to heal your health.
The goldeneye powers were also cool, seeing through walls, using magnetic fields to launch enemies across the room, hacking stuff in the environment to use them to your advantage and activating a shield, those are all really cool when combined with the gunplay.
The story is also great. Instead of playing Bond again, you get to play an MI6 agent turned evil who works for Goldfinger in a war against Dr. No. I think that's a very unique concept that is way more interesting than just playing the good guys again. And honestly, I don't get why this is one of the things people focus on when criticizing the game. I mean there's dozens of other games where you play as James Bond himself, what's wrong with exploring another character's perspective? As for "the name is misleading" criticism, i mean the game was marketed heavily as you playing a bad guy, it's not like they said you were playing as Bond and then made you play as someone else.
Oh, and did I mention Christopher Lee returns as the voice of Scaramanga in an "Evil Q" role?
Is it really deep? Certainly no. But it doesn't need to be to be fun. And it certainly is fun if you go in it with the mindset of "dumb fun."
Overall, really fun game that I don't get the hate it gets. Anybody else feel this way?
Στο βίντεο φαίνεται ξεκάθαρα ότι το ξεκινάει ο Ναν.
