Traveling in August

Traveling to Rio, staying in Ipanema, what should I make sure to do and be aware of?

My wife and I (young 20s), are staying in Ipanema for 8 days. What are some things I should be aware of/make sure to do? I’ve heard of Rio’s safety concerns and take them seriously but how much of a factor do they make while there? Do I have to worry about much more than pickpockets or is there more violent crime I should be aware of?

Is there any fun activities I should make time for? Obviously Christ the Redeemer and I’ve heard Morro Dois Irmanos is cool but anything else? Any cool places?

Lastly, I speak very little Portuguese. I want to learn but don’t have a ton of time. I speak a bit of Spanish, will that be a large barrier?

Traveling in August or January

Hey everyone,

What’s there to do around Oaxaca? My wife and I are trying to decide whether to travel to Oaxaca or somewhere else. We will be traveling to Oaxaca in either mid August or early January.

We’re both younger in our early 20s. We love hiking, sightseeing, nightlife, talking to locals, seeing different cultures, and other fun activities

What are some things you guys would recommend? Oaxaca seems like a great place but I’m struggling to see fun activities to do other than Monte Albán and Mercado 20 de Noviembre. Is there any other exciting activities we should be looking into?

We’re considering splitting our trip 4 days in Oaxaca and 4 in Puerto Escondido
