post # 2 swimming spots and old mining history

a small adit at the Rolley lake falls pool area. I once hid a container with my email in it in the adit. A year later I received an email that was only a photo looking out from the mine lol. You can find a trail down to the pool, the mosquitos are bad this year fyi

swimming and old mines

I get two or thee requests yearly for both old mine sites and out of the way swimming holes.

I visited one area recently and will share pics and some details, Whonnock area.

the Old Walden mine, hard rock mine from the early 1900s, not much to see now as the shaft is filled in but there is a cement wall just above it and another adit 100 meters upstream. accessible from the With God Trail up off of MCnutt, go down to the river when you find the hat nailed to a tree lol. The log across the river I believe is was the start of the log flume of the same era, it reportedly went down over the mine (filling it with water) then east to the Stave river. would have loved to see that. Details of the old workings can be read in the book In the Golden mountains by Charles A Miller. I have a pdf copy of it and a hard copy of his other book about the Stave.

here is a link to some of my older photos of the area https://flic.kr/s/aHsk1aMHWt
