Siege

Why are there so many people doing them who have no idea how they work? Kind of frustrating when we fail one when someone is sitting on 2k resources.

Aeldari durability

I am kind of new to the game, and have been just collecting and looking at detachments and doing my own list building/theorycrafting. It feels like to me, that aeldari are meant to be fast hard hitting units with less durability, but I get the feeling just looking at datasheets, comparing uinits from different factions (looking at space marines) that the speed and damage component is not really there. It feels like to me that quins and drukhari are faster and more deadlier. And that leaves aeldari in kind of a weird place.

In total war warhammer 3, high elves are generally fragile too, but in this game because of their discipline, they get bonuses to their defense when their strength is high. Why could we not do the same with Asuryani? Say if a units strength is >50% of its starting value, it gets a toughness increase of +1? Or they get a +1 to their invuln save or something. Just a thought I had.

Seer Council Questions

Now that we know Seer Council is a 2 DP detachment, what units are we thinking about using with Seer Council, and how should it be played.

It kind of dawned on my last night. I was trying to wrap my head around how to make use of the high mobility (generally speaking) of Aeldari units. And I think the use case is to make sure that your units have any special modes active. So two examples are fire dragons and dire avengers. Both get more damage when they are in half of their weapons range. Banshees need to get into melee range. And I think more importantly, being able to choose the targets that you fight is what you want to do. Fire dragons into monsters + vehicles. Banshees fighting into infantry.

With that said, how should you play seer council, and what units are really beneficial to it?

My first ahah moment was looking at Fuegan and Fire dragons. Fuegan ups their melta range to 12", which works wonderful with the Unshrouded Truth stratagem.

Banshees I don't think can advanced after being teleported and then that puts them at a >9" charge which idk if that sounds like a position you want them in. I still think Banshees can have a place, but not for unshrouded truth.

Dire Avengers will be outside of their desired 9" range.

I guess there is also the aspect of just putting something within shooting range which the enemy does not think is in shooting range. Such as swooping hawks, or just a brick of storm guardians +Eldrad + warlocks.

I was thinking about the corsair voidscarred, but they seem far too expensive for their efficacy. I am asking more from the standpoint of a 1k point list.

Thoughts?

Seer Council list

Just starting into 40k, and wanted to play Aeldari. In particular Seer Council. How is this list? Trying to keep it at 1000 points for now.

Just a couple of thoughts and reasoning for why it looks the way it does.

Eldrad will be attached to the storm guardians as well as the warlock conclave. I feel this is a standard block. CP points will be nice, and the shooting and sticky will be nice.

I added corsair voidscarred because they innately have a psyker in the unit. The unit is oufitted with mostly ranged weapons. I was thinking about using this or using a 5 man unit of voidreavers + Kharseth, but still not sure. I am trying to get more psykkers and trying to avoid using psykkers on bikes.

Dark Reapers with missile launchers for an extra ranged flex piece. I like the versatility of the two shooting modes. Also teleport where I want them easily.

Howling Banshees with an Autarch. This unit will teleport where I need them and likely charge behind or flank some units. Autarch to give it some power and to get free strategem.

Fire Dragons + Fuegan to make sure high prior high toughness targerts die.

Also not sure really how to make a list and export it. Been using Newrecruit to theorycraft, but the free version. Is there a better way?

I guess the only criticism is the lack of psykkers. There are 2. With the rest of the points will get enhancements? I'd have to play with keeping all of the other troops close to these two blobs.

Storm Guardian Power swords

Kind of new to to 40k, and assembling the storm guardians. Hoping to play seer council because I like the stratagems and the versatility of it. I read that its optimal to put power swords on the units with the fusion rifles because then you can have more bodies to toss before you lots the fusion rifle and power swords. How does someone do this? Also what is the power sword? The kit comes with 8 straight blades and 4 chain swords. Is it just expected that I paint two swords to be power swords (different color)?

Is there a kit that I can buy that has stand-alone swords that I can somehow just glue to the back of my fusion rifle storm guardians, or one handed fusion guns?

Hi All. New to warhammer. I have a combat patrol, but I am just wondering about my first army. I was really eyeing Guardian Battlehost.

  • It buffs guardian units and all of the strategems look pretty good. As I look at the detachment and the stratagems more and more, I am starting to see that you want to make a guardian defender unit that has a lot of units in it. I am thinking of using a farseer + warlock +warlock conclave and then a vibrocannon all attached to a guardian defender unit. The farseer + warlocks will give the unit some extra hitting power and the vibro cannon along with the heavy weapon in the unit will give it two high str attacks to hit tanks etc. So the one question I have here is with warlocks and the warlock conclave, is there a limit to how many to add? Support weapons can only attach once.
  • The other question is that the farseer has an ability to grant +1 hit, but also the detachment can grant units +1 hit (only guardian models right and not the unit?) when on an objective. Do these stack?
  • The warlock grants -2 to charge if the unit is charged. Can this stack? Can I put more than one warlock in it to get some stupid -to charge?
  • The warlock conclave has an ability that subtracts 1 from the wound roll. If I can add more than 1 warlock conclave to a unit, does this stack? Also does this affect stack with the stratagem Shield Nodes? It allows for a -1 to wound on your unit if it is on an objective.
  • How do you use storm guardians with this? I was thinking of making a storm guardian unit that is in reserve from the beginning or maybe using the cost of victory stratagem for some shenanigans. There is a stratagem to give a storm guardian unit 6" extra movement. I wonder if it makes more sense to pair an autarch with this kind of unit for the 0 cost stratagem used on the unit. Also this cost reduction can be used once per battleround. Idk what a battleround is? Is that a turn? Does this work on my opponents turn? And if I use an autarch, I assume that would mean no farseer. Do I even want a unit that wants to run in and get in combat? I could not use the cost of victory stratagem then.
  • Where would you put an Eldrad? In a guardian defender? And if so in the unit that is directly in the middle of the fighting, or off or even in a storm guardian unit?
  • Warwalkers, do I even need them? If I am putting vibro cannons in the guardian defenders are they still needed? Maybe as support for the storm defenders?
