I Need Help Finding Some Dad/Butt Rock Songs With Cool Riffs for the Gym

So I need some recommendations to expand my gym playlists and albums. I really like butt rock for the gym currently. It’s been my go to. I heard this really cool track from a reel called “Demons” by a new, pretty unknown band called calm attack. It got me trying to find some songs that sound like that. It’s got the really cool riffs and the punchy drums. I also really like the guys voice. If you haven’t heard it, I encourage you to check it out. But here’s some stuff I like listening to in the gym, can you recommend me some stuff based on what I like? some of the stuff I listen to in the gym gets old sometimes and even just a song I’ve never heard by these bands would do, as well as bands I’m missing from my list. I need some songs to make me feel badass and unstoppable in the gym. Obviously I listen to grunge as well but this is more post grunge. Thanks Reddit.

Best RHCP Songs to Play For a Girl Who Doesn’t Like Rock Music

So I have her number, talked on the phone a couple times for 20 minutes each time. She’s very shy and I don’t really know if we have that many common interests. I can tell she’s very into me but I’m unsure about her. I want to introduce her to some clean, non sexual Chili Pepper songs so we could share an interest in a song. I know a lot of girls like their hits. I was thinking either:

zephyr song

universally speaking

wet sand (my personal favorite from the band, just a beautiful composition)

fortune faded (my second favorite from them)

hard to concentrate (I’m still unsure about her so maybe this one is coming on too strong too soon)

tear

Scar Tissue

under the bridge

Do you guys have any other suggestions for my situation here? i really like their heavier stuff like the funk metal of one hot minute and mothers milk but obviously that’s a bad choice for a girl who doesn’t like rock music I think. She said she likes some stuff I have never heard of, and country. So I don’t know if she’ll like one of my favorite bands in the chili pepper, but we’ll see. Thanks Reddit

Sickness In You & I Soundcheck?

Is the rumor true, will the play it on the North American tour? It’s a shame they haven’t debuted it yet…

Where Do “The Wow! Signal’s Best Tracks Stack Up Against Other Older, Iconic Muse Songs In Your Opinion?

Title explains it. Seriously though, these new tracks are awesome. The Dark Forest, Cryogen, and Hexagons are probably right up there in my top 20 all time favorite Muse songs already. Sickness is pretty underrated too, my personal favorite from the Wow! Signal. I don’t see this subreddit giving it as much love as other tracks, that’s how you know it’s a good album, when tracks fans aren’t talking a as much are still one some of the best on the album.

16 Times Muse Went Metal On Their (Studio) Tracks

We all know Muse is an alt/hard rock band at their core, but over the years they’ve snuck a decent amount of genuine metal DNA into their catalog. I'm not talking about basic hard rock tracks with fuzz pedals like Hysteria—I mean songs with legitimate metal markers (7/8 strings, thrash picking, double-bass, or down-tempo breakdowns). I personally think more metal heads should give the English trio another chance to try and objectively see the heaviness of some of their catalog that I’m about to list.

Obviously Muse incorporates riffs from metal bands like Slipnot and Deftones in their live outros, but I’m going to focus on their studio recordings.

Here is the chronological list of tracks where they actually cross the line into metal territory:

Ashamed – The song starts as raw, noisy hard rock, but the last 90 seconds is a slow, half-time, completely blown-out industrial sludge beating.

Execution Commentary – An unhinged B-side instrumental with a brutal, caveman-heavy down-tempo breakdown at the end.

Citizen Erased – Tracked on a 7-string in A-standard. The low-end weight on the main riff is pure progressive metal.

Micro Cuts – Neoclassical minor-scale sweeping on the main guitar riff paired with operatic falsetto, followed by a crushing, white-noise heavy outro breakdown.

Dead Star – Aggressive, dark Drop D riffing that fits right into the early-2000s alt-metal scene.

Fury – Tuned down to Eb standard / Dropped Db. The main riff is a massive, crawling, sludgy doom wall.

Stockholm Syndrome – Frantic, high-speed alternate picking across a minor scale descent, ending in a heavily syncopated progressive breakdown.

Assassin – Dom plays a driving 16th-note thrash beat while the guitar uses fast-picked speed metal lines and a tight, mathy breakdown.

Reapers – Starts with '80s shred-style tapping, transitions into a syncopated prog riff, and finishes with a sudden thrash metal explosion.

The Globalist – The middle 3 minutes completely drops the rock groove for a heavy, complex rhythmic stomp mimicking Tool/Mastodon.

Won't Stand Down – Verses are electronic, but the chorus is modern metalcore, complete with double-kick blast beats and heavy palm-muting.

Kill Or Be Killed – Driving double-kick patterns, pinch harmonics, a tapping solo, and a death-metal style drop. Easily their heaviest riff.

The Dark Forest – Open-string drum gallops and dramatic Latin choir arrangements that detonate into a heavy, symphonic metal outro.

The Sickness In You & I – Gritty vocals over a pounding heavy bass groove that finishes with a mechanical, Gojira-style chugging breakdown.

Unravelling – Tracked with an 8-string guitar. Uses the ultra-low, mathematically precise mechanical chugging of modern djent.

Hush – A pop/electronic fusion track, but it qualifies strictly for the sudden, heavy disruptions where they drop massive, low-tuned 8-string riffs.

Any other non-metal bands that have a hidden heavy catalog like this?

My “The Wow! Signal” Review

My Ranking of the Ten Tracks:

1. The Sickness In You &  I: 10/10

Very good overall heavy metal track that mixes metal riffage with upbeat funk melodies and royal blood type stuff in the pre chorus and verses.  The breakdown is phenomenal and love the double bass drumming, sounds very gojira. Synth outro after the song ended to set up unravelling was top notch too, great and only way to follow up a metal breakdown in a muse song. Also really liked how even with a royal blood mixed with funk in the pre chorus and verses, there was still the downtuned main guitar riff in the pre chorus and heavy bass lines in the verses, something unravelling missed, so that’s why it’s above it.

2. Unravelling: 10/10

Djent Muse? Djent Muse. Love the riffs and breakdowns with the 8 string guitar and 5 string bass. Very big chorus with some great instrumentals along with Matt’s soaring vocals. Verses grew on me overtime and I love the arpeggios. Last 2 minutes of the song drive it home for me, the breakdowns and solos were perfect, just wish they could’ve been longer.

3. Cryogen: 10/10

Old school Muse track, plug in baby’s twin. Love the riffs and Matt’s falsetto at the end when he sings nitrogen. The strumming before that part was amazing as well. Love when muse does hard rock, Did I mention the outro yet? Just “Wow!”

4. The Dark Forest: 10/10

Callback to Knights of Cydonia with hints of United States of Eurasia. Love the thrash metal riff section after all that buildup with the Latin and guitar riff. Muse with Orchestra was needed in their music. Very epic prog song.

5. Hexagons: 10/10

Love the intro and outro with the tapping riff. Reminds me of black holes. This is the one muse song where I like the electronic elements along with their old school prog and space rock sound, like new muse covering old muse, fantastic. Another epic piece of MUSEic. “Take A Bow”, Muse. (See what I did there?🤪)

6. Shimmering Scars: 8.5/10

Very sad and emotional song compared to what I’m used to from muse. Loved how it picked up with guitar and eventually that tremolo section. Still not as great as the 5 other songs listed above it, but way better than expected.

7. Hush: 8.5/10

Really liked the 8 string riffage, solo, and parts of it are catchy. The hush, hush, hush, hush in the post chorus with the 8 string riffage. I just don’t like the pop elements of it. An actually good muse pop song because of its heavy elements. Nuff said

8. Nightshift Superstar: 7.5/10

Love the bass, drums, and overall melody even if it’s cheesy, but it really needs guitar. If it had that it would be a much better funk follow up to panic station. Love to sing along to it though.

9. Be With You: 6.5/10

The radio friendly pop song of the album. Besides the organ, the beginning of it isn’t that good, but it picks up with guitar at the end and it’s catchy and fun. Sounds very queen to me and that’s good. A very cool but basic solo in it too. A lot better than other muse pop songs like madness or undisclosed desires in my opinion, that’s good considering the possible outcomes of a muse pop song.

10. Space Debris: 6/10

Very middle of the road and average track to me compared to the rest of the album. Very emotional but not done as well as shimmering scars to me. Although I did like the lyrics. Wish it had that prog rock vibe of space dementia but it is just soft. Easily the worst song on the album that I just can’t get into as much, but I can’t deny how beautiful the lyrics are.

Overall: 8.8/10

Some very high highs, 5 new tracks that are some of my new favorites is a huge win from a Muse album, but some tracks feel like filler to me and could’ve been done better. I really liked WOTP but I think it’s better than it. I’d give WOTP maybe an 8.5/10, ST is probably a 3 just because it has only 3 tracks I kinda like. Both TW!S and WOTP are very good albums, mostly because I love muse doing metal on a few tracks on each album. TW!S also has higher lows than WOTP in my opinion. Both obviously blows away ST but that’s an easy bar to hit.

Thanks for reading my review everyone!I enjoyed making it. Muse deserves all the love they’re getting for this album, it’s phenomenal!
