News channels for Civics classes?

I have my Senior Civics and Econ class first period this year. I’m looking for 5-10 min news feeds to start the day that are apolitical and summarize events quickly. Or alternatively, I could show news from different sources each day to illustrate how different sources say different things. Still 5-10 mins of headlines.

I’d love suggestions of good feeds / channels or how you engage current events each day with your seniors. I had to take a news break for reasons personally so I’m out the game.

Help me find this chair? Or one like it?

I sat in this chair in a Residence Inn in Eagle ID. I know it’s made by ISA International in Canada. I know it’s called the Katie model. I’d really love to have it for my desk at home. It tilts back and the seat is extra wide which is great for criss cross or extra wide butts like mine.

Maybe they produce them for wholesale for companies to sell under another name?

If I can’t purchase this exact chair, maybe you have one similar you can recommend. Maybe you can help me steal one from the Residence Inn in Eagle ID if I don’t find something soon.

Best / most useful teacher award or gift you’ve received?

I am currently subbing in a very small rural district office and most of the key employees are on leave. I tagged new teacher because I’m starting a teaching position in their high school next fall so I don’t know what people typically get at the end of the year.

I am helping to plan the end of the year party and typically the awards are plaques and the retirement gifts are plants etc.

I’d love to know about your favorite or most useful gifts and awards you’ve received (besides money because duh lol) OR if a good plaque / plant just really does it for you.

Cheers!

I (34F in CA) have an opportunity to teach Spanish 1 and 2 for a small rural high school local to me. I’m a certificated sub already and would have to enter a credential program if I get hired.

Because it’s a very small public school, they are really hoping that the half-time Spanish position can also fill their badly needed 2 periods of PE for middle and high school. The half-time format of the job is ideal for me for a lot of reasons both personal and professional.

Running the mile in middle school is high on my list of worst core memories haha. This is a great opportunity for me to get my start in teaching but I never thought about having to teach PE.

If you teach PE I would love to hear what you think. I have never considered myself any kind of authority on anything physical. What kind of resources would be available to me if I was to try and teach it? Do you enjoy it? Does this mean I can wear gym clothes for the rest of my classes lol??
