‘ICE Contractor’ Discourse
There’s a lot of chatter around the Tayvis wedding. The most damning point is that they invited an ‘ICE contractor’ to the wedding.
This really confused me, because let’s be real, silence aside - it’s highly unlikely that Taylor supports ICE.
So I snooped a little and found more context. The guy is the adoptive father of Reggie King, Travis’s childhood friend.
These comments explain why Steven J. Demetriou was invited - https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/s/VrBU0IySho and https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/1uo7fu4/comment/ovqbdwo/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=2&utm_content=share_button
‘Steven J. Demetriou is the executive chair of Amentum Holdings, a government contractor that was first hired by the Biden administration to house Afghan refugees after the US military withdrew, and now does everything from NASA research to IT to refugee settlements.
The company was hired three months ago to reform an ICE facility that was shut down because it didn't meet detainee's medical needs, documents were mishandled, and multiple detainees died. The previous contractor was fired, and this one is a Democrat-backed hire on a temporary basis (180 days) to inspect and reform safety standards. They had no contracts with ICE previously.
Any type of ICE contract is a bad look at first glance, but the headlines aren't accurate. He was invited because he's the father of one of Kelce's childhood friends.’
Now, I’m not in the US, so I don’t know how far boycotting works. But the whole idea that they deliberately invited an ICE contractor because they support him is absurd. It feels like trying they’re trying to find a gotcha moment.
Personally I hate it, because even if you think the wedding is tacky (which I do!), that’s no reason to shit on someone on their wedding day.
