Partner (30F) very upset that I (30M) didn’t open the door for her. Am I missing the point?

Please help me understand.

A few months ago, my partner and I went on a date and I parked my car next to another car. I got out, saw her on her phone so I walked to her side of the car, waited outside her door to make sure she finish what she’s doing on her phone before I open her door.

Soon after, I saw a guy walk hastily towards my direction. I realised he was going towards his car and need to get in on the driver seat. So I backed away from the car and he got in. Shortly after he started his car and backed out. All the while I stayed away from the car to clear space and not get hit. As soon as he backed out, my partner opened her door.

Partner got really upset and in her perspective I just walked to her door, then walked away. As if I’m “baiting” her and that was a weird behaviour. I kept trying to explain my action but she wouldn’t accept it.

Now I don’t normally open the car door for my partner. I have to actively make it an intention to do so. It’s not natural for me. I never claimed that I normally open her door. And she knows that.

Fast forward to today, we went for dinner, I parked the car, saw she was tying her shoes inside the car. I waited outside the car, did not have the intention to open the door like 90% of the time.

Now she’s calling me out that the first incident a few months ago I never had the intention to open her door like today. But I argue she’s wrong. At that time I did have the intention, but today I didn’t….just like 90% of the time. I admit that I never intended to open her door today but a few months ago I did. It’s just that I didn’t get to.

I still don’t know if I’m missing something here. Why can’t she accept that fact?
