Long time no post, little Half Step

Haven’t had much time to practice Dead music as of late but since I already knew this one I figured I’d take a few minutes to record a take and get involved, love that this is still going

If you could give yourself advice before your first gig what would it be?

I wanna preface all of this by saying mods (slav) if this ain’t allowed go ahead and delete it because it has nothing to do with Dead music but this is the one place on the internet i feel like I’ve ever gotten good musical advice from and dare i say I’ve even developed a few relationships so there’s nowhere else I’d rather ask

Friends and I are playing our first “gig” this weekend, nothing fancy but we got a a 1 hour time slot at our local porch fest. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so excited for something, it never really felt like something I was cut out for when I started learning guitar a couple years ago but we went from wanting to do good enough to really nailing our material (nothing dead related much simpler music) and realizing if we play to our potential it’s really gonna be a good time for our friends and family and any strangers that stop by to watch.

All that said we’re a few days out here and for the first time since I was a kid I’m really starting to feel nerves over something. We have lots of friends and family showing up and are going to be supportive no matter what so there’s not actually anything to be nervous about outside of wanting to live up to my own potential for me and me alone.

How did yall cope or get yourself in the right headspace to play in front of people for the first time? At this point I think I know the answer is ride the wave and just go for it but if there’s any advice you’d offer a first timer I’d love to hear it!

Thanks guys

(Late) Brown Eyed Women

Played it a little while it was actually the song of the week but didn’t really have time to practice it and decided it would be fun to just give it a one and done take and see what I could do based on what I know about the song. Haven’t had much time to practice Grateful Dead music but hoping to put some effort into polishing Althea this week

Peggy O

Going out of town for a wedding this week but it’s been a while since I took the time to learn a new Dead song so I tried to put in the effort to learn it the last couple days.

Had a hard time coming up with new ideas that weren’t just the melody but found lots of inspiration from others on the sub, super fun song and one that I’ll probably keep working at

Ship of Fools

Might come back to it again before songs of our own is over but I’m pretty happy with this. Tried to listen to a few different versions of it and approach it in a less is more kinda way which I really struggle with but I think this was a great song to try and improve my ear a little

Got my Phred Ashbury in the mail today and I’m super stoked about it! Bit of a rough Touch of Grey to show it off but I just wanted to record something to share.
