Anyone remember this stealth pilot from Cartoon Network in December 2000? It aired once on Adult Swim in 2002 as well, but it had lots of early Adult Swim DNA. Was called The Lewis Lectures and starred Jack Black.

Anime general perception in the mid/late 2000s before the 2008 bubble burst...what created the conditions for this?

I remember being a huge fan of anime in the 2000s, but of the Adult Swim variety, but I remember there being an entire "other world" of anime I never had access to like the multiple DVDs I'd see at the mall, which seemed like types of anime I hadn't seen before and wasn't interested in. What made anime not as lucrative in the late 2000s, making anime disappear from Toonami and Adult Swim and what made anime start being trope-ified by the general public for things like fanservice, which wasn't as common at the start of the decade?
