Finished the game last night. Why must they do this to me?
What a fucking masterpiece with two haunting bittersweet endings. I can't get over this story.
[Loved Trope] Character being haunted by an unknown figure who is revealed to be (a version of) themselves.
Eleanor Crain (The Haunting Of Hill House): The Bent-Neck Lady that traumatised Eleanor since her childhood eventually leads adult Eleanor back to Hill House, where the house finally "consumes" her. Eleanor was tricked into hanging herself to death. Only right as she dies, the house shows her that the woman with the crooked neck that haunted her throughout her life was nothing more than a glimpse of what would become of her at the end. Arguably up there in one of my favourite reveals of all-time.
Maelle (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33): Maelle's nightmares are plagued by a white haired woman with a burned face, making her question the surrealism of her experiences across the continent. It is later revealed that the woman is a painted copy of Maelle, who is actually a woman named Alicia in the real world.
Jess (Triangle): Jess realises that the masked killer hunting her and her friends is actually an iteration of herself stuck in the time loop for far longer.
Alice (Lake Mungo): Alice, before her death, is visited by a bloated, disfigured figure that is later revealed to be Alice's own corpse.
