PSA before you sign up for Xero: their "notice period" cancellation clause will cost you 2 months minimum
Wanted to flag this for anyone shopping cloud accounting software. I signed up for Xero under their 6-month-free promo. When the promo ended, they billed me $55. I scheduled cancellation shortly after getting email from Xero. Never really used the paid service.
Xero's position:
- $55 is non-refundable ("fee is for access, not usage")
- On top of that, there's a one-month notice period so I get billed for the following month too
- Two months total for a product I actively cancelled and didn't use
The notice-period clause is buried in their terms of use and is not shown during the cancel flow. When I pushed back, the second-line rep essentially said "dispute it with your bank if you don't like it."
Not the end of the world financially, but it's the kind of thing that tells you how the company thinks. QuickBooks, FreshBooks, Wave, Zoho — none of them do this. If you're going to sign up: cancel at least 30 days before you actually want to stop paying, or you'll be paying for two months of nothing.
