NAD

i didn’t get a crazy good deal or anything, but holy shit these XXXs are slept-on. i bought it off of a friend who was selling off some of his old backline gear and i’m not at all disappointed. i wasn’t sure it was for me at first when i tried it through my V30 cab with the damping on the tight setting— it was a little quacky, but i put it in the mid position and there i think it’ll likely stay. been mainly living on the “Crunch” channel, if you can really even call it that. not sure what preamp tubes are loaded in it, but it has a quad of Mesa 6L6GCs in the power section and it roars, plugged straight in! sounds especially ballsy through my 412MS with Sheffield 1290s.

fun oddball pairing

the Randall Cyclone i snagged for $300 (plus some actually stupid shipping rates) from someone out of state from Facebook Marketplace and the Hiwatt LA412 i got from a crackhead for $150 loaded with the stock skunk-stripe era T-75s. this dude was using the cab for his home stereo setup— no jack, just wires hanging out of the back of the thing hooked up to the posts on his home stereo. awesome pairing, though! what’re your favorite weird amp/cab pairings?

AN4L-412 build

here’s a fun project i did back in November of last year with an old Fender HM-412 cab that i snagged for $100. i knew it was full-size but i didn’t know how great of a project cab it’d be until i opened it up and saw that it’s all ply. it’s been stripped, sanded, caulk sealed at every seam, coated in 5-6 layers of truck bed liner (Vader style!) and fitted for a custom 1/8” thick expanded steel grill for real venue-to-venue abuse. it got new casters, new rubber feet, as well as new speaker, handle and jackplate gasketing. finished the project off with a sparkly quad of WGS Veteran 30s that i got a crazy great deal on.
i took heavy aesthetic inspiration from Pantera’s Randall XL cab backline, but i already have an RES-80 loaded 4x12 so i wanted this one to be a little more serviceable for live use being that Jaguars have been out of production for nearly 30 years.
this ain’t your grandma’s Fender cab!

Randall RGP1000 + RRM 2-80 tone test

a little tone test (camera audio) with this absolutely complete unicorn setup i found for $300 on Marketplace about a month ago. the footswitch was acting a bit finicky at first but i cleaned the contact pins and it’s as good as new! the top cab is a Fender HM412 cab i completely reengineered down to the hardware and bedliner coating (dedicated post coming soon), loaded with a quad of WGS Veteran 30s, bottom cab is a Basson B412BK loaded with Eminence Legend 1258s that i just removed some of the stock damping from— it was WAY overdamped.
cleans are going straight into the front of the RGP with some of the onboard reverb and chorus, the gain tone is just guitar > BOSS GE-7 > TCE Sentry gate > RGP1000.

$60 FB Marketplace snag

just scooped this Fender M80 Chorus, i already have the M80 pro and really enjoy it so i figured i’d take a shot for $60. it’s 65/65w stereo and loud as sin. they take EQs like a champ, one out front and in the loop and it’s all you need for some satisfying chugs!

Edit: to any other M80 owners; what’re your favorite speakers to use with your M80?

NAD!

it took a solid 6-ish hour round trip and cost me $300, but i think it’s still a win. sort of a dream setup of mine!
