Puppet question

Hi Savages!

When you use the Puppet power on someone, does your commanded action take place on your turn or on their turn?

I would like some advice on these powers

Hey everyone, I'd like to ask for some feedback regarding two specific powers, one from Pathfinder AG2 and another from the Horror Compendium.

The first one is Spite. In our campaign, we used it as inspiration for a homebrew retaliation power—you basically deal back the damage you received. However, since it was designed for the Horror Compendium, it doesn't have an Epic modifier. We're playing a high fantasy campaign, and the players felt that 1d6 damage per wound suffered is a bit underwhelming. How would you go about making this power stronger?

The second one is more of a question on my end. Do you think Monsters' Gift having a fixed PP cost is ideal? It feels like spending just 4 PP to gain something like Fast Regeneration (assuming a Heroic raise, or if you're playing at Legendary rank) is way too cheap. I was thinking it might make more sense to increase the cost based on the power's rank instead.

Masterwork itens

In the FC it says that it is not possible to create masterwork items, and it is necessary to find a craftsman. But could a player be that craftsman? Create such a character, perhaps a tinkerer with the artifice edge and a high repair? Would you leave something like that with any edge? In my setting to using the Vermillium crafting system, so I was thinking about it.

Hey, so i created a arcane background, what do you guys think?

Hey guys, I made a post here recently talking about my setting and how its power system works. In short, people can control the world through their Ego, making their worldview apply to reality. I ended up creating an Arcane Background for this, if you want to check it out!

𒂟 PACTS AND CONTRACTS (Type: Nox)
Users: Hunters
INFO: Hunters are known for harboring dominated apparitions within themselves and using their powers to overcome the supernatural horrors plaguing society. Once harboring an Apparition, Hunters must coexist with these forces in a communion that allows them to engage in supernatural standoffs without any conflicts of interest with their oddity. Within the Order, Hunters are the ultimate force that unfolds its battles using "fire against fire" to then dominate adversarial Apparitions in their natural habitats, which requires them to constantly work and transition between monstrosity and humanity.
REQUIREMENTS: Novice, Vigor d6+, Fighting d6+, Intimidation d6+, Shooting d6+, Survival d4+
ARCANE SKILL: Faith or Choice (see “Favorite Skill” below)
POWER POINTS: See the “Contract” ability below.
STARTING POWERS: See the “Contract” ability below.
AVAILABLE POWERS: Hunters have access to all powers in the setting, provided it makes narrative sense with their apparition.
FAVORITE POWER: Hunters choose one of their starting powers; this becomes their favorite power.
CONTRACT: Hunters are very different from one another and depend heavily on what their apparition thinks of them. This means that starting Power Points and starting powers are defined by the hunter themselves depending on their apparition. The player chooses how many starting Power Points and starting powers they will have (and these starting powers can even ignore Rank requirements). Additionally, a hunter can buy any Edge from any Arcane Background or acquire any background ability from any background of their choice! Finally, they begin the contract with Faith, but can choose their Arcane Skill to be any skill in the game! All of this, however, comes at a cost, as detailed below.

THE WORLD OF APPARITIONS IS UNFAIR: Balancing the cost of the contract can be a complex task, especially regarding whether or not the apparition is strong enough to justify such power. Generally, the stronger the apparition, the more powers and points you can acquire, but the cost extracted will also be higher. At the same time, weak apparitions might extract massive prices purely due to their personality. After the player decides on their loadout, the GM will define the price to pay through the apparition. This is done by rolling on the Veteran Rank table (from Deadlands or Horror Companion, choose whichever fits the apparition best). The number of rolls depends on the hunter's requests and the apparition's personality, which may even choose to charge nothing. However, the player must acquire at least one Major Hindrance if they exceed 3 starting powers and 15 PP.

CRITICAL FAILURE: Using apparitions and your Ego will always be extremely dangerous regardless of the context. Toying with fate and the world also means putting your own autonomy—your Ego—at risk. Upon rolling a Critical Failure on their Arcane Skill, Hunters must roll on the Dynamic Backlash Table (Savage Worlds Adventure Edition, page 162).

FAVORITE SKILL: It is possible to choose any skill to be your Arcane Skill. Such versatility comes with a price: all your powers will permanently cost 2 additional PP for skills linked to Agility, and 1 additional PP for skills linked to Smarts/Spirit (obviously, originally arcane skills will not suffer this additional cost).

Blood Magic, Hunters and Specialists, i need some guidance

Hello everyone!

So, I've been GMing a campaign for about three years now. Last year, my group and I discovered Savage Worlds, and we became really interested in it, so we ended up switching systems. Before that, we were using a homebrew system with elements borrowed from D&D and Ordem Paranormal (a Brazilian RPG). Since then, I've been working on adapting my setting to Savage Worlds. We currently use the Fantasy Companion, the Science Fiction Companion, and a few bits and pieces from Deadlands in our game.

For context, my campaign takes place in the year 2130 in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk world. Despite the advanced technology, people live isolated inside fortified city-states protected from radiation caused by an event known as the Great Rain, which occurred in 2050 and marked what became known as the Lost Decade.

The campaign originally started with the players thinking it would simply be a futuristic post-apocalypse, but there was another major element involved: Apparitions. Every sentient being possesses an Ego—their personal perception of reality. When large numbers of people perceive the world in a similar way through rumors, myths, and legends, those beliefs can manifest as Apparitions and folklore creatures, creating the aberrations and ghosts that haunt this world.

Some people are capable of projecting their own Ego outward, altering reality and forcing the world to behave according to how they perceive it. This phenomenon is called Manifestation. This is where the fantasy aspect comes into play: all Arcane Backgrounds available in my campaign represent different kinds of Manifestation users.

There are two primary types:

Specialists are individuals who manipulate the veil of reality through their own Ego. They're generally weaker, with more limited control, but their powers are relatively safe and reliable.

Hunters, on the other hand, enter into a contract with a powerful Apparition. This allows them to manipulate reality through that Apparition's Ego instead of their own. As a result, they're usually far more powerful, but they must pay a significant price for that power.

Sorry for the wall of text—I’m not even sure all that context was necessary—but here’s my actual question:

I wanted to mechanically distinguish these two Arcane Backgrounds by giving Specialists access to Power Points while Hunters use the No Power Points rule. My original idea was that No Power Points would make Hunters feel more powerful, while also making them riskier to play.

However, both my players and I ended up feeling the exact opposite. Hunters were definitely riskier, which is what I wanted, but they also struggled immensely to cast more complex and powerful abilities. That ended up conflicting with the core fantasy of the Arcane Background, since Hunters are supposed to be the more powerful of the two.

Because of that, I started looking into homebrew solutions and found an Arcane Background called Blood Magic. I like the concept behind it, but it still doesn't quite solve my problem.

So, with that in mind, do any of you have suggestions?

I'd really like to preserve the distinction between Power Points and No Power Points because, in my setting, magic is supposed to be extremely volatile but also highly rewarding. Mechanically, I feel like that distinction fits the contrast between Specialists and Hunters very well.

The only thing I've come up with so far is making up some kind of rule that lets Hunters ignore or reduce the No Power Points penalties. 😅

Vermillium set money

Hey savages! How would a conversion between the Vermilium setting and Fantasy Companion work?

If V100 is the currency in Vermilium, how many PO would V100 be equivalent to?

How would you create a Iron Man / D.Va character?

Hi! So i have a playe who is struggling in creating a character (currently at heroic rank) that follows a specific Iron Man or D.Va troupe.

The idea is that the character sheet should have very good armor with excellent toughness, but the character itself, without that armor, doesn't have that much.

I tried talking to him about using powers, and he did, but he's still not satisfied because he didn't have enough toughness and he goes out and put vigor on a 1d12 + 2 (please don't question how), but he and I know that his character would never have that much vigor.

How would you create this troupe? We are using Savage Fantasy.

Legendary Edge: Sorcerer

Hi guys!

So, there is not a really good reason for this idea, just me being silly.

But my GM and I particularly did not like the Sorcerer's Legendary Edge in Advanced Pathfinder, we wanted something more ...vertical with the imprint of a sorcerer's "raw power" rather than another bloodline (which btw there is already an edge for this)

This is not a criticism of Edge itself, it is more that we are thinking about doing some homebrew edge instead.

Do you have any ideas? I wanted to create something that would pass on the idea of the Swade Fantasy sorcerer, something more raw power.
