The Art of Balancing School and a Growing platform

I haven't posted here in a couple of weeks.

School has been keeping me busy, and whenever I've had free time, I've been onboarding freelancers onto Ajiree(link) and talking to people about what they actually need from the platform.

Made a few improvements based on the recommendations.

One thing I've learned is that launching something is only the beginning. Getting the right people on board, listening to feedback, and improving the experience has taken way more time than I expected.

We're at around 280 users now, which is encouraging. Still a long way to go, but it's been interesting seeing it grow one person at a time.

Anyways back to reading for my exams and onboarding😭😓

3 weeks in and some of these profiles surprised me

I did not expect freelancer profiles on Ajiree to look this good this early.

Three weeks ago it was just me and an empty platform. Now freelancers are setting up profiles daily, and I have been going through every single one personally, checking that the portfolio links work, the photos look right, the descriptions actually represent the work, fixing anything that feels off before a business owner sees it.

A good number of them are in great shape now. Clean layout, real work on display, the kind of profile that makes a business owner stop scrolling and actually click. Here are a few that have been setup on the platform:

🔗 https://ajiree.com/freelancers/blairmiheso
🔗 https://ajiree.com/freelancers/laitetei

If your business has been putting off a website, a logo, or any design work, the talent to actually get it done is already here.

More profiles going up every week. Curious what you think of these first few.

Ajiree is Open

I'm building Ajiree to make it easier for clients to discover Kenyan freelancers.

We've already onboarded developers, designers, marketers, video editors, virtual assistants and other professionals.

If you're a freelancer, I'd love to have you on the platform.

If you're a client, I'd love to know: what do you look for before hiring a freelancer online?

There's a lot of hidden talent in Kenya

A few weeks ago I started building Ajiree to help Kenyan freelancers showcase their work.

One thing I didn't expect:

How many talented people are out there with almost no online presence.

I've spoken to developers, designers, video editors, marketers, and virtual assistants whose work is genuinely impressive, but many of them don't have a portfolio, LinkedIn profile, or any easy way for clients to find them.

It's been eye-opening.

For those who freelance, what's the biggest thing stopping more people from putting their work online?

Didn’t expect Ajiree to hit 30 users this quickly

Didn’t expect the response to be this positive this early honestly.

After sharing ajiree here, we crossed 30 users pretty quickly.

What I like right now is that it still feels small, which makes it easier to stand out without competing with thousands of people at once.

Still improving things as I go, but it’s been nice seeing people actually give it a shot.

Freelancing...

Over the past few weeks, I’ve shared quite a number of freelance gigs, internships, and job opportunities on this sub.

A lot of people started reaching out privately. Some wanted to know whether certain gigs were legit. Others asked how to avoid getting scammed, where to find direct clients, or whether freelancing is actually sustainable long term.

And then there were the portfolios people sent me.

Honestly, some of you are doing really impressive work.

What stayed with me most was realizing that a lot of people already have the skills. The difficult part is finding genuine clients and avoiding all the confusion that comes with online gigs.

After having those conversations a whole lot, I ended up building ajiree.com . Just a simple platform to help freelancers connect with clients more directly without the payment issues because everything is held behind escrow with payments directly to your M-Pesa.

Still improving it as I go, but I finally reached a point where I felt comfortable sharing it here.

Ajiree.com

Would genuinely love to hear your thoughts and feedback.
