Career Advice

Hey everyone,

Got a bit of a common question asked these days ( maybe ) .

So I've been job hunting for more than 9 months and can't land a single offer. I graduated last year with a degree in computer engineering and ever since I've been studying for the cybersecurity field ( SOC Analyst ) and some IT stuff.

So far I've completed several stuff ( Tryhackme,Cyberdefenders,CCNA,MCSA etc..) and did a couple of interns in cybersecurity and cloud computing but I don't have official certs, am only self studying the contents . I know at this point even a SOC T1 ( a quick notice, the SOC T1 positions at home are extremely rare and they prioritize recommendations and referrals for those positions ) is not an entry-level job no more so I aimed on positions such as IT helpdesk/IT support but at my home country even these positions require 1-3 YOE to get hired ( like wtf ) at and that if you are lucky to find an offer. At this point the market at home is absolutely terrible so I thought about either getting a Masters in cybersecurity ( and I have no idea if that would enhance my position ) or switch to another career before even starting my first one. Thought about ( UI/UX, full-stack, QA etc.. ) but I also know that the market is saturated as well in the other fields ( but the thought about getting something remote or freelancing is an advantage compared to the cybersecurity/IT field has crossed my mind ).

I know the post is kinda messy but am just writing it out of stress and depression. Am just seeking advice from anyone who was in a situation like mine or if someone is in my same situation, what will be their choices and decisions?

Is a Masters degree from Japan worth it to get a job afterwards?

Hello yall!

So I will try to make this as short as possible ( hopefully ) , Am 24M and I graduated in 2025 ( almost been a year since then ) and I wasn't able to find a job since then due to the amazing job market in my home country. I have a degree in computer engineering and for the past year I had been basically studying Cybersecurity ( SOC Analyst, this is the field that I specialized at ) and IT stuff ( CCNA,MCSA etc..). There are basically no job opportunities in the cybersecurity field here and if by some miracle there is, recommendations and referrals are extremely prioritized.

My initial plan was to get maybe 3-4 YOE here at home, study till N2 in that time as well and then apply for mid-level positions in Japan after that. I thought that was the most realistic plan ( and I probably still think so ) but I feel like am just wasting time at this point. I then had another thought about getting a Masters in the field of cybersecurity in Japan in the hope that this thought might open multiple doors for me in Japan. Will that be a better choice in landing a job afterwards? I thought maybe getting the degree in 2 years will give me time to reach N2 and job hunt there ( while am on the student visa ). My main concern was will it really be worth it or basically I will just be wasting another 2 years? Especially that I have 0 YOE and by the time I get the degree maybe I'll be 26-27, will I even be considered a fresh grad by then when applying for jobs? Are there even any job opportunities in Japan regarding that field of study? Honestly, stress got me too many questions with limited answers.

( And regarding my Japanese, am at early N4 )

Sorry for the long post although I tried to keep it as short as possible. Hopefully I could seek advice from yall and thanks!
