Sizing down on a Diverge to get the best of both worlds?

I'm looking for a new bike with for 60/40 gravel/road riding. I'm a believer in smooth is fast, so I'm drawn to Future Shock and debating between the Roubaix or Diverge.

I understand the Roubaix leans more road and the Diverge more gravel in a direct size-for-size comparison, but I've been thinking about a sized-down Diverge vs. a standard Roubaix? (Ex: 54 Diverge vs. a 56 Roubaix). A smaller Diverge would keep the massive tire clearance, have the basically same reach as the Roubaix (stack would need to be added), UDH compatibility, standard seatpoats, and have a shorter wheelbase (than a 56 Diverge) for greater agility.

Is this a viable approach for someone who wants Future Shock, 40mm+ tire clearance, and a more nimble feel? Curious if anyone has experience with this tradeoff and/or if I'm missing something?
