This trend needs to die

Pictured above, the bottom lights on the Chevrolet are the actual brake lights/ turn signals instead of the top part where those lights are normally housed.

My main complaint is when I am stuck in heavy stop and go traffic- it is hard to tell when a car is trying to move over to my lane especially if the car is on the passenger side, because my door/window view blocks the bumper out of sight. It is not a massive safety concern, but why has this trend gotten so popular recently in cars?

Also, it looks dumb.
