Can’t charge at work - 2027

Yesterday was my first time trying to charge in public at work. Others were charging at the stations adjacent this one and someone was even charging in this station later in the day. I get a solid blue light for a few minutes and then it goes out and I get the errors in the photo. It’s a level 2 j1772 charger and I’m using a lectron (https://a.co/d/0gPifuUi) adapter. The adapter and my level 2 at home works fine. Seems I’m the only one having issues at this charger. It’s set to charge immediately as you can see in the photos. Any suggestions?

Is there a breaking-in period?

I found a used Bolt that I’m planning to buy, and despite it being a 2020, it only has 1,600 miles on the odometer. It’s a buyback and has completed the recall service. When it comes to gas powered cars, I remember that you are supposed to drive it gently during the break-in period. Is the same true with an EV? Is there anything I need to know about driving an almost new Chevy Bolt?

Saying Farewell to One of the Twins

We have two completely identical 2023 Bolt EVs. Well, one of them is almost certainly totaled. Awaiting the final decision from insurance, but I doubt it's ever coming home. Made it 3 years and 37k miles.

A family member was driving alone late at night and allegedly ran a red light and was t-boned by a Camry. The car did its job with the side curtain airbags deploying. Car spun 180deg before coming to a stop. Doors opened easily. Everyone from both cars is okay.

I'm surprised that I received no sort of notification from the Chevy app. Only about an hour later did I receive notifications to service the airbags and seatbelts. I tried to move the car out of the road, but it refused to shift out of park.

Not sure what we'll do next to replace it, but we are very happy with the time we had with this Bolt.

2027 Bolt at 0.9%, or 2023 Bolt Paid in Cash?

Hi all. I test-drove a 2027 Bolt LT today for my wife. $30,926 OTD at 0.9% financing for 36 months.

My other options are: 2023 Bolt EUV Premier, 2023 Honda CRV Hybrid, and 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid. Any used car would be paid for in cash. (2023 Bolt is roughly $23k; others are in the $30k range.)

All will function to our needs, so we are hoping for the best value proposition.

Are the 2027s much better than the 2023s? With the financing, and the opportunity cost therein, it's really tempting to buy new. On a net basis, it's not that much more.

Also: The dealer said they cannot offer a discount ($29,990 MSRP sticker plus $1,000 in fees). Any tips on getting them to go lower? Financing offer expires May 31 so I would need to move quick.

Thanks!

2027 Bolt RS 3 days in - thoughts

Pics attached are the day I bought it and after new tint.

I've put a few hundred miles on my 2027 RS w/ Sunroof & Tech Package already and am here to share some initial thoughts. I'm coming from an Ioniq 5 lease, but a previous Bolt owner as well.

Overall love the car. Happy I went back to the Bolt. While the Ioniq 5 charged faster and may be a bit quieter on the road with a more premium feeling interior, I just like the Bolt more. I like the look more and my Bolt is nearly fully loaded with all the bells and whistles compared to my Ioniq which was pretty basic. If I stuck with an Ioniq I'd have to get the base model and still spend more than I spent on my Bolt RS (~$32.5k OTD in SoCal).

I really appreciate the ambient lighting more than I thought I would. Being able to customize it is a bonus. Looks really good this time around, whereas it felt more subtle in my last Bolt. The sunroof is great and really opens the car open and makes it feel bigger. Car is a joy to get around in and park in small spaces. The Ioniq is not huge, but the Bolt still feels way easier to maneuver. The seats in the new Bolt feel just fine to me and I have no issues.

I purchased a J1772 adapter (Lectron ~$40) and have used it a few times. I will probably pick up a CCS adapter at some point too. I haven't charged at a Tesla charger yet. I did get the windows tinted and that really helped with heat in the car. Even got some clear tint on the sunroof to block some heat.

Let's talk about the infotainment and dreaded lack of CarPlay. I'm a long time iPhone user and have used CarPlay in my vehicles for many years. I mainly use it for Apple Music and Navigation (via Apple Maps). I was nervous about losing CarPlay, but not a dealbreaker like it is to some. I have to say, I've gotten by just fine. I just hook up my iPhone via Bluetooth and say "Hey Siri play _______" and it streams my Apple Music flawless via voice command. For maps, I just say "Hey Google directions to ___________" and it uses the built in Google Maps to guide me to my destination. I prefer Apple Maps, but this works just fine. So with a combo of Hey Siri and Hey Google, it does everything I need. I can still yell at Siri to send messages also, but I don't do that often.

With all the positive things said, the biggest negative so far is the sound system. It's downright dreadful. It's slightly better when using the built in infotainment, but for some reason my car doesn't have the Apple Music app installed yet and it's not available in the Play Store. Streaming from Bluetooth gets the job done, but the speakers in this car are just bad. I guess it's not the end of the world because I love the car so much, but wish they were better. I might look into replacing some speakers at some point depending on how much work it is and how much of an improvement I'd see. If anyone has any recommendations, I'm all ears.

The dealer I bought from allowed me to use my GM Rewards Card to pay for $5,000 of the purchase, so I'll pick up some accessories if they ever give me my points. Website shows I earned the points, but they aren't available yet. I'll either get nicer floor mats or maybe the cargo cover (but almost $200 for a cargo cover???).

Happy to answer any questions anyone might have!

I’m assuming this is a bug, lol?

Either that or I haven’t topped off to 100% in a long time, though I could’ve sworn I did. Maybe it only went to 99%.

Not used to efficiency like this

Coming from a Tesla Model S to the Bolt I'm not used to seeing efficiency like this. The drive that i used to make 120mile round trip used to take most the battery and I could only do it once. The bolt I can do it twice. That's a win for me.

Data privacy on 2027 Bolts

With the Federal Trade Comission order that came out of the NY Times investigation and now GM settling a CA lawsuit for mishandling/selling driver data to 3rd parties after promising not to do so, is there any way to avoid giving GM all your data on the new Bolts? We clearly can't trust GM to do what they say even if the new lawsuit requires them to not sell 3rd party data sales for 5 years. When I pulled my Lexis Nexus report I was surprised by not just how much data there was after a few months of ownership (80+ pages) but how much of it was just wrong. But insurance companies buy that data and use it to set rates and most consumers will never see it to check for accuracy and I don't think all this effort should be required just to own a new car.

On the 2017 - 2023 Bolts you can pull one fuse and know the car's Onstar module isn't sending data to GM. You lose your compass, home-charging scheduling, and some of the voice command stuff but otherwise the car works as it should. Is there something similar you can do for the 2027 Bolts or is the infotainment /Onstar too tied up with the car now?

Bolt body style question

Those of you with the new Chevy bolt (2027) what is the vehicle classified as? Our dealership is trying to tell us our car is classified as a pickup. In Michigan, a ev pickup registration is more than a passenger car. From what I have found the vin number starting with "1G1" shows that it's a passenger car and the GM vin numbers for trucks usually start with "1GC", "1GT", "3GC".

I feel like the dealership is in error here, so I wanted to see what any of you have on your registration. Bonus if you're registered in Michigan.

Used EUV (2022 or 2023) on 120 volt ...Worth it ?

Hi !

I want to get rid of my old Elantra 2011. I live in Montréal and the Bolt EUV could fit my usage. I mainly use my car to go to work ( 60km per day). I dont want to install a charger at home for now. Could it be doable to just use a normal 120v outlet ?

I guess it would be hard in winter with the big drop in effiency.

Also any advantage of getting a 20203 over a 2022 ? I would like to get premier trim with Bose sound system.

Thanks !

Please ELI5 what I need for a 2021 Chevy Bolt EV...

2021 Chevy Bolt premier

I want Comma on my 21 Bolt or trade for a 27 with super cruise. I have read and watched videos. My understanding is that comma is currently better than super cruise.

Could someone please ELI5 (explain like I'm 5)

  • what I need to purchase for comma to work on a 21 bolt ev
  • who should I buy from
  • what I need to buy
  • how difficult is the comma system to install?
  • I guess anything else someone thinks I should know or be aware of

Thank you

How is everyone’s AC doing?

Got my 2019 last month with 100k miles. Ice cold AC. How’s your AC doing? If you’re in VA we’ve had our first heat wave last few days so I’m very grateful.

First Long Trip Completed - Thoughts

2022 Bolt EUV. Completed our first vacation with a good amount of driving. The drive back is 441 miles (the longest section of our trip). I used premium ABRP and used my free trial of Onstar to connect to ABRP. Southeast Nebraska to Southwest Missouri.

My first complaint - ALL THE CHARGING APPS, good lord. I underestimated how many I would have to download because you cannot tap pay at most stations.

2nd complaint - if you arent using plug share to double check if the charger is available/in working condition, then you will have a headache. We didn't run into this on our way there, but on the way back was rough. One charger was out of order and we had just enough to get to a slow charger. Then use reduced speeds to get to a fast charger. Another one was being used, so we had to just wait till they were done.

3rd complaint - It seriously added around 5 hours over the whole trip for charging.

Pro - we saved on gas $ by a good amount (trade off via time spent charging)

Overall, I loved the way she drove/performed. It was just really inconvenient to charge and deal with charger availability/usability. Definetly will just spend the extra on gas money for the convienece on long hauls next time, but I wanted to give it a try. If your in it for the trip itself and arent in a hurry to get to your destination, it isnt awful. Otherwise, use the Bolt as intended - a daily commuter.
