I made a free desktop app that re-spaces print-and-play PDFs so cards are easy to cut
Hi! I got tired of print-and-play files where every card is packed edge to edge: one cut is shared by two cards, a millimetre off ruins both, and there’s no room for bleed. So I built Gutterberg.
You open the PDF, mark where the cards are, and it makes new sheets with space between every card, at the exact original size, with the artwork untouched (it never turns your PDF into pictures, so text and art stay sharp).
What it does (right now):
- Mark cards with a grid, draw them one by one (even tilted, for messy scans), or let “Detect pieces” find them for you
- Pick which cards and how many copies, mix cards from several PDFs, choose A4/Letter/A3/etc.
- Cut marks, bleed, and double-sided printing with card backs
- Use PNG/JPEG/WebP images as cards too (e.g. 9 card images onto one A4 sheet)
- Saves projects, updates itself, English and Spanish
It’s free for personal use, runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and the source is on GitHub:
https://github.com/JoaquinArruiz/Gutterberg
It’s early (0.9), so I’d love feedback: what PDFs give you trouble, and what features you’d want. Bug reports are very welcome through the GitHub issues. PLEASE if you find anything from the UI not intuitive, or a bug, or both, or anything to improve feel free to comment, open an issue, or anything!
(Heads-up: builds aren’t signed yet, so Windows/macOS will warn the first time you open it. The README explains how to get past that.)
