I built a retro, Sensible Soccer-inspired web app to stop the chaos of organizing Sunday league games

Hey r/indie_startup!
Like a lot of you, I've spent way too much time dealing with messy WhatsApp group chats just trying to organize local football kickabouts, figure out squads, and track who's actually showing up.
Instead of building another boring utility, I decided to lean into nostalgia. I built Gaff3r (https://gaff3r.vercel.app/)—a web app for organizing local football games with a retro aesthetic heavily inspired by 90s classics like Sensible Soccer.
What Gaff3r does:
Squad & Match Management: Invite players, assign positions, and build balanced teams.
Group Hubs: Easily manage local groups and regular fixtures.
Nostalgic UI: Pixel-art player sprites, retro pitch layouts, and classic scoreboards.
I’d love for you to check it out, test the workflow, and let me know your thoughts on the product or launch strategy!

Showoff Saturday: I built a retro Sensible Soccer-themed web app to organize Sunday league games (Gaff3r)

Hey r/webdev!

For this Showoff Saturday, I wanted to share a project I've been building: Gaff3r (https://gaff3r.vercel.app/).

Tired of messy group chats for local matches, I built a football match organiser with retro pixel-art aesthetics heavily inspired by classic 90s games like Sensible Soccer.

What it does:
Handles squad management, player ratings, and positions.
Lets you manage groups and organize local fixtures.

Fully responsive web app built for the stack and hosted on Vercel.

Check it out here: https://gaff3r.vercel.app/

Would love to hear your thoughts on the design or code!

I built a retro football match organiser inspired by Sensible Soccer (vibe check/feedback welcome!)

Hey everyone!

Like a lot of you, I've spent way too much time trapped in endless group chats trying to coordinate local kickabouts, figure out squads, and track who's actually showing up.

Instead of building another boring, corporate utility app, I decided to lean into nostalgia and build something fun. I created Gaff3r—a web app for organising football games with a retro aesthetic heavily inspired by classic 90s titles like Sensible Soccer.

What it does:

  • Squad Management: Invite players, assign positions, and set up balanced teams.
  • Match & Group Organisation: Handle local groups (like my Monday game in Edinburgh) seamlessly.
  • Retro Visuals: Pixel-art player sprites, classic scoreboards, and nostalgic pitch layouts.

Tech Stack:

Built for the web (mobile-first) and hosted on Vercel:https://gaff3r.vercel.app/

I’d love for you to check it out, play around with the interface, and let me know what you think or what features you'd want to see next!

Creative playmat

I’m testing the idea of using the inside of the pizza box as the central playerboard.

At first I thought the idea would not be well received but apparently everyone who saw it quite enjoyed it.

What do you think?
