Is Dubrovnik actually worth it?

Hey everyone,

We're planning a road trip through Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia with my wife and our 18-month-old, and I've got a genuine question: is Dubrovnik really worth all the hype?

I'll be honest, I've never been, so maybe this is a naive take. But when I look at all the other coastal, historic, charming towns in the region, I'm struggling to get why Dubrovnik gets so much attention. I'm thinking of places like Primošten, Šibenik, Omiš, Makarska, Rovinj, Pula, or Korčula… They all look gorgeous, often quieter, more authentic, and honestly maybe even more beautiful.

From the outside, Dubrovnik mostly comes across as really expensive and really crowded, which isn't ideal when you're traveling with a toddler in a stroller.

So my question is sincere: what does Dubrovnik have that all these other towns don't? What makes it unique enough to justify the crowds and the prices? Is it worth the detour, especially when traveling with a baby?

Thanks in advance for any tips or honest takes!
